Can't be that old:

Warner Oland or Sidney Toler ? These either????
Pancho or Cisco ? Huh?

Intro post. I am Sam and in Nebraska. Smoked about 50 or so cigars in my life. Recently been smoking quite a bit more often. Picked up some sampler packs from various source for cheap and trying anything that comes in. Then I found this site and lurked for a couple weeks. Now I have overbid on some lots and have about 200 sticks on the way. Don't tell my wife. I have really enjoyed a CAO Columbia and Nub Habano. Other than that, I was not finding much in flavors and such when smoking. Tried retrohaling and there was a learning curve. Today I worked on finding different nuances and retrohaling while smoking a Alec Bradley Tempus Genesis. Found something new and literally took me by surprise, some nuttiness. Thought I was going to religated to infused cigars. Lol. I have some coming anyway.

Now, I am getting an old mini fridge setup as a coolidor. Wife said it was broken and of course I fixed it within 5 minutes of her bringing it home! Not leaving it plugged in, but will use it since I already have it.

Long-time cigar guy here, decades, huge collection, etc. etc. Some tips I can offer:

1. Don't buy a large number of cigars now, your palate will shift and you may be sorry you bought so heavily. Buy small quantities only. Let your palate grow and mature and get more sophisticated. That way you WON'T end up with hundreds of sticks you don't want later.

2. Retrohaling takes practice but is completely, totally, thoroughly WORTH IT. I'd estimate about 85%+ of a cigar's flavors can only be experienced by retrohaling with the olfactory hardware, not tasted with the tongue. If you don't retrohale, you're missing nearly all of the cigar's flavors and most of the overall experience.

3. Think of infused cigars with this analogy -- you've never had any liquor before, and you want to get into bourbon. Your friend gives you two glasses, one has just bourbon (call it 😎, the other has bourbon mixed with Kool-Aid (call it B+K). Initially you think B is harsh and awful and you much prefer B+K. This persists for a short while. However a bit later on your journey into bourbon you realize B is where it's at, and B+K is a disgusting joke. This is the typical progression for new cigar guys. Be aware of this, and DO NOT buy large quantities of infused cigars, you'll likely end up hating them and giving them away later.

4. Unplugged mini-fridges, unplugged chest freezers, coolers and even clear plastic storage tubs are, IMO, far better than fancy wood humidors in all categories except looks. So great idea with the mini-fridge! Rock on.

Thanks pudding. That's some good info. I'm pretty frugal and smoke quite a bit of what I have before I purchase more. I'm not I've smoked an infused one yet? Smoking a La Gloria Cubana now.

You're welcome! Remember the rule though, you have to pay it forward when you're a cigar veteran many years from now, and help the next generation of new guys!

Infused is stuff like Drew Estate's Acid, Tabak Especial and Isla Del Sol lines, and lots of other lower-quality brands by other companies.

Before Drew Estate came along, usually infused/flavored cigars were a way to sell crap tobacco with the flavors covering up some of the crappiness. Drew used decent tobacco and then flavored it, which generally makes his flavored stuff better than other brands, but.... it's still a flavored cigar, which is the equivalent of bourbon mixed with Kool-Aid to make it "accessible" to brand-new newbies. Again using the analogy, Drew just uses better bourbon before mixing it with Kool-Aid, essentially.

By all means, try infused/flavored cigars, just to see what the deal is. But I suspect before long (if not instantly) you'll ditch them and want to enjoy the subtle wonders of good tobacco as-is, without all the unnatural, overpowering Glade scents and candy-like flavors added.

La Gloria Cubana is okay, but they used to be a lot better in the early years before the founder sold out to a giant conglomerate.

As I recommended to another newbie in another thread, try the Perdomo Champagne next (the regular version, not the stronger "Noir" version that can come later). One of the best lower-strength sticks on the market, you'll almost certainly love it.

Good Pudding wisdom. I recall getting same advice years ago regarding the champagne perdomo but I didn't care for it. I stumbled onto a Padron and got stuck on it exclusivly for about 5-6 years. Still use it as a standard to measure others by. Then I discovered the small batch boutique's that unfortunately can't be found on discount auction sites. Ruined. Ignorance was bliss when I used to love $2. Stix. That said I have a close friend who has smoked nothing but perdomo for 40 years. He likes the pilsner one. Yuck. But lucky him.

Padrons are great, but toward the stronger end of the scale and they're not cheap... you can say the Perdomo Champagnes aren't cheap either, but you can find really great discounted deals on those if you pay attention, whereas I rarely see any such great discounted deals on the Padrons (I suspect because of the MAP pricing policy).

My best Perdomo Champagne deal was on the "scary site" back in 2017 when they were offering a bundle deal of a Xikar CigarLocker (complete with mini Boveda pack), a Perdomo-branded Xikar Xi1 in a gorgeous metallic gold color, and 10 Perdomo Champagnes in 6x54... and both Xikar items have their awesome no-proof-of-purchase, no-strings lifetime warranty that covers ANY problem including dull blades and even cosmetic finish wear, which means those two items last, look great, and the cutter remains sharp, forever until you die. Cost for that whole package, after "scary" discount and 20% discount code on top of that, and with free shipping included? $49. Crazy! The "scary site" offers it today (pre discount codes) for something like $118. Watching the "scary site" closely, and daily, really pays off sometimes.

The Perdomo Champagne, like all cigars, is a matter of taste, but he can try it see what he thinks. If he has the budget, by all means Padrons are good next step. Padrons are some of the best cigars made in the world, particularly at their higher end.

I can enjoy both budget sticks and high-end ones. The high-end ones are great, but they didn't "ruin" me on the budget ones, except for the lower end of budget, which are the truly crappy garbage sticks. I'm fortunate I suppose, as it keeps my overall expenses down a bit.

The really fun part is when you find a budget stick that turns "wow" after some years of aging. That's where the real screaming bargains happen, but you don't know till years later. However, after awhile you develop a sort of sixth sense for what budget sticks will, and will not, get a lot better with age... but that takes many years of trial and error and experience. But that's fun!
