A few nights ago we lost power. With nothing else to do, my phone lost power pretty quickly. So I thought about getting one of those hand crank chargers to have for such a time. All that I've read said that they're not all that efficient; it takes a lot of cranking to get any useful battery life.

Solar jobs are cool, but it wouldn't have helped me at night.

So now my thoughts turn to battery packs. I'm not looking for a daily use job to carry around with me. I'm looking for one that I can plug in and forget about it. I read somewhere that you can damage a battery by leaving it plugged in unless it has some kind of safeguard to protect itself.

I'm too lazy to start reading a thousand articles online about which is best. My guess is that someone here has already done that and can just point me in the right direction.

So I might be able to help you. I use a battery pack called RavPower I have the deluxe serious ismart+ one I have had it maybe two years and I use it more often than not. Not sure if there are other newer or better models. I'm sure there are. After fully charging it stays full for about 2 weeks if I don't use it, before I notice any draining. When charging the battery pack the lights flash, when charged the lights stop and turn off. Normally when that happens there is a safety device inside that won't allow you to over charge things as with cell phones you can't over charge them really anymore, once it hits 100% it stops the charger until it needs it again as a safety. You can get about 2-5 full charges from it depending on the device being charged. Hope it helps you, any questions let me know.
