patience, my man...

self awareness, which you do not seem to be in low supply, leads to empathy and then to compassion...

at some point we can hope you'll get to at least a neutral point of view...

Nah. I firmly hate all deltas now.

Prolly gonna go and kick the nile a few times when this coronavirus is over.

Mississippi has a delta too doesn't it? I'm gonna head there with an excavator.

Dictionary definition: bigot - a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

So by going on that definition, I would have to say that everyone (myself included) is a bigot at certain times and on certain topics. I guess that doesn't necessarily mean that you're a bad person, it's just that you feel so strongly about something that you reject the contrary argument right out of the gate.

Some might feel so strongly about the designated hitter position in baseball that they can be called a bigot on that topic.

Morals, values and ethics are kinda a sticky wicket. Those are traits that you learn based on your upbringing and experiences. I believe morals are more of a core believe system (know in your heart the difference between right and wrong) while values and ethics are a bit more fluid based your experiences and the point in time they are applied. For example, morally you know it's wrong to steal but if your daughter is in dire need of some meds and the only way you can get them is to break into a pharmacy then your values/ethics change for that scenario.

Regarding the Constitutional rights you mentioned – freedom to speak your mind, freedom to protect yourself, freedom to worship what ever deity you want, etc... I see them as deeper than just legal rights or laws. I see them as natural or inalienable rights or laws. Rights that you are born with and cannot be superseded by any written law unless forfeited through such actions as to deny others the same rights.

Although many of us here butt head on certain topics, I think in the end we are more alike deep down inside than we come across in this silly forum.

How does this relate to who should be the VP pick? I have no flipping clue. All I do know is I'm afraid of the mess that we might be leaving behind for our kids. They deserve better than we've created and I don't know how to fix it. All I can do it try to keep my side of the street clean.

You are correct in your assessments. I worry for your children's children's children. How much worse can this get. Unfortunatly I think much worse. We grow more divided by the day. I don't think it likely. But I do not rule out the possibility of an armed insurrection or a cu de etat. I know, poor spelling. Here's a good question though one most will laugh at as conspiracy theory. Who runs our government? And yes fundamentally most here are much more similar than different. We want the same thing. A better future for America. How to get there, how to get there? Common sense? Neither extreme has that. Rome is burning and Nero is playing. Doesn't matter if it was Trump or Hillary in truth, just different flavors. I refuse to believe we are to broken to fix. But maybe I am a dinosaur. Every great society throughout history has fallen to corruption and greed. Is it our time? If so how we rebound still matters. There is a poem about not going quietly into the night that seems appropriate.

no, spey...I'm sure that the founding principles will endure...they are America's legacy to the world...we will continue to be a monument to freedom and liberty...

it is in our blood...our birthright...

only difference is that the population will look different in the next two-three generations...a change that is occurring right before our eyes...as shown by a look at the diversity on one side of the aisle in the halls of Congress...and I'm optimistic that the younger people in our society are becoming politically aware of their power and are willing to engage...and it is a diverse group

they are demographic change that is motivating those who are threatened to build a wall, stop immigration, stop them from voting, keep them in prison, stop feeding the poorest of them...

at some point, prolly in the near future, after the next elections, the GOP will return to the place they were, when after a resounding defeat, they did an "autopsy" to determine how to be a relevant political party moving forward, and the extremists among them burned the book and elected Trump, their last gasp...
