NOssir, no Vena cava filter, I don't have the clotting disorder, and yes, the pain is quite different than my normal pain from Deg. Disc disease and Spinal Stenosis, arthritis, etc., which I will have the rest of my life. I live by the motto "Another day above ground's a good'un!".
Mine was caused by lifestyle, flying multiple times/month, working 60-70 hour weeks living in hotels and not really getting proper exercise. All I was doing was sitting at a table, going through whatever the public brought to our shows and along with the free appraisal offering them cash for their coins, paper money autographs and such. BEST money I ever made, and I didn't want to quit, but I also didn't want to die in a hotel room!! The second occurrence was brought on by standing beside the oldest Grandson's bed for the better part of three weeks or riding driving back and forth the 2+ hours each way to the hospital in Nashville when he had his first cancerous tumor removed. I was feeling the similar "sandpaper grinding" against my lungs and chest area as the year before, so I just started taking the Coumadin again. I will be on that for life. The second occurrence was 2009.
I'm truly a walking miracle. Blood pressure med has one diuretic and I take another one in the morn ing and have to often keep my feet propped up most of the daytime hours or my ankles and legs will start swelling. As well, because of the back issues and edema, I suffer anytime I spend more than twenty to thirty minutes either riding or driving. When we go on longer trips, I tend to stop more than usual and walk around a bit to try and keep the blood flowing. If I have to fly, I walk the aisles as much as possible.
I was making STUPID money during the recession. Wife has been a RN at the same non profit for, at that time, 30 years, and I was able to make more than her per year in less than six months, and that was only 2-3 weeks out of the month. My regular doctor and wife had been hassling me to go on SSDI for a few years because of my back issues. I just had to accept it, but I've never NOT been working, even when I was kid, I worked. SO, I have to work at NOT going stir crazy
