I saw video that showed fireworks going off before the large detonation, so fireworks may have started the fire, but unless they had huge amounts of explosive chemicals stored on site, it was something else. Typically fireworks manufactures have several buildings to minimize damage from an explosion. I'm guessing it was a cover for an IED shop or a cover for importing explosives. It could also be a large amount of chemical that gets really PO'd when heated by a fire. I'm confident the Lebanese fire marshals will have a good explanation of how code requirements were followed every step of the way... right up until the explosion.

Not sure what caused the red smoke though.

Lebanese officials claimed there were explosives that had been confiscated from a ship stored in that building. That was one helluva blast!
