There are certain towns here in MA that still don't allow self serve gas stations. It's not a state thing here, it's a town/city thing.

But there are some that have changed over recently.

When I was working in Oregon back a few years ago this drove me crazy.I asked one guy why people couldn't pump their own gas,his reply was "the law was passed to create jobs in Oregon..........oh and to prevent people from completely topping off their tanks."

there's a reason gas tanks and propane tanks for grills are not supposed to be topped off.
both need space for expansion under certain temperature conditions.

Fake employment, but the state needs the revenue.
I rather just get out of the car, plus it reliefs 🐒butt on long cruises.

Only poor people pump their own gas.

I suppose you wash your own windshields too?

I don't know if it's changed but, a few years back New Jersey still had full service stations that would not let you pump your own. I thought it was a nice break. On the way to the beach and I don't even have to get out of the car to refuel.

To be fair, I think not getting out of your car in Jersey is a good idea.

Has not changed. I love it. Sit in your car while they pump it for you. Don’t have to worry about getting gas on you if there is a problem with the pump. I always carry gloves in my car if I am out of state & have to pump it myself.

The Hot Rod is another story. I am out of the car immediately & tell the attendant I’ll pump my own gas.

I haven't been to or thru Jersey in quite a while, but the last I remember there was no self service, including rest stops on the turnpike. We have a full-service station about 5-6 miles away, but the gas there is about $ 0.20 higher per gallon.

Gas is always more expensive at rest stop locations by at least 15 cents a gallon. Compared to NY & Pa. I believe we are comparable or cheaper while staying in our warm /cool vehicle while getting refueled.
I just filled up last night with PREMIUM for $2.39 a gallon, regular was $1.93.

FYI Oregon law allows people to fill themselves if it’s a classic car/hot rod, motorcycle, boat, or diesel (any).

Another recent stipulation is in towns under 10k population the stations can remain open unattended (pump jockeys) and they can be self serve after 10pm.
