I did stand-up comedy back in 79-80. Worked at some NYC clubs and also went around with some bands and did stand-up between sets. No kidding. Never made much if any money. Got to hang out with the late great George Carlin on several occasions as he was a good friend of someone I knew and was introduced to him.
I also submitted scripts to TV shows through an agent I had and actually was considered for a junior writers job at SNL by Lorne Michaels along with Anne Beatts who was their head writer. I didn't do political stuff that well and they decided my writing style was not what they were looking for, Although my literary agent just thought I was too young at the time and they were looking for a more experienced writer.
