If incentives and ways to otherwise get others to help finance your endeavors, is it not a rational decision to take advantage of it? I argue you can fundamentally be a capitalist while also being an opportunist. There's no reason why you have to exclusively either be a stout hardcore right wing, no government type of individual... or a commie progressive. As much as many people like to think that's how the world works... it don't.

There's millions of rigid people out there thinking it's my way or the high way... not willing to budge on anything, no compromises... If you were to stick them in a room, it wouldn't just be the RayRay bucket and the commie progressive bucket, there's would be millions of buckets with an average capacity of about 1.2.

What I'm ultimately saying though, is huge ideas and huge advances in civilization don't happen without groups coming together, subsidization, or outside financing and backing of some sort... and the really big advancements don't come without government help.

I personally like our government... I think it's one of the best in the world. It allows different people with different agendas to voice their opinions and try to make a change for the better in some way. I'm sure many politicians get into it for that very purpose... but any time you put people into the mix, chaos happens. Every problem all of a sudden becomes more complex (mathematically and philosophically).

Our system, when it's working correctly, in my opinion should allow for very little change. Let's say someone comes in... causes too much ruckus... pisses the masses off, they elect donald trump. He comes in, wipes out the last guys changes... puts in a bunch of new stupid sh*t... he pisses the masses off... next guy comes in, wipes out trump's sh*t and nothing gets done.

Brilliant.

I understand you progressive types completely, you can make all kinds of excuses for immoral behavior, like stealing. You "argue you can fundamentally be a capitalist while also being an opportunist" Opportunist in the sense that getting the government to finance or subsidize your endeavour is somehow moral and normal behavior for government. Some call that "crony capitalism", some call it "economic fascism". Anyway it means that in fact the progressive-left likes to see the business world and the government joined at the hip...well only if it's something they like, maybe like green energy or some other darling industry that the left believes only gubment knows how and where to direct capital and recourses too.
Like Joe Biden who says "we" are going to build 500,000 charging stations across the U.S.
Otherwise if it's something they don't like, they are bitching about political corruption, lobbyists and corporate welfare. The right-progressives are exactly the same way, I give no quarter to them either.

Big advancements don't come without government help? Amazing! Is that like Obama's "You didn't build that" theory?
Can you give some examples?
If something looks like it's worthwhile supporting, then individuals and groups will come together voluntarily and supply the investment and financing, knowing full well the risks and the potential rewards. That is capitalism in the true sense of the word.
When politicians do it, they take no risk of their own, they divert stolen loot from involuntary investors (taxpayers) to their politically connected cronies. The perfect recipe for corruption and wasted capital and recourses. From direct cash subsidies, taxpayer backed loans, stimulus or bail-outs—it's all theft...period!

I think you better take a closer at the federal gubment and the state gubments too that you like so much, the gubments that don't believe in constitutional limitations on their power, that don't live by the same moral and legal codes that we have to live by without being prosecuted as criminals. I think you'll discover that they've all progressed too and have become a gang of thieves writ large.

Oh yes, the usual progressive answers...

There would be no space program without gubment
There would be no roads without gubment
There would be no electricity without gubment.
There would be no skools without gubment
etc...ect... ect... we'd all be living in darkness, no science, with horse and wagons traveling on dirt paths, and illiterate too!
The only other possible reality as viewed through the modern progressive crystal ball.

There is one truth that is indisputable but never approached by gubment lovers of socialatism, gubment "investing" crowds out consumer choice, private incentives for innovation, competition, economy, profit and efficiency.

RayR has just revealed himself to be an unregulated, unleashed capitalist...the class of folks that were the cause of most of the economic calamities that nearly destroyed our democratic republic numerous times in our history, that has destroyed vast stretches of the environment; injured, maimed and killed working citizens, poisoned the air, water and earth, pocketing their money, declaring bankruptcy and fleeing the scene, leaving the rest of us to pick up the tab ...

it is ironic that our country's Founders were among this type, but realized that independent colonies inhibited commerce, so they sought to create a union that would be most beneficial to commerce between colonies, especially to build interstate highways, harbors, postal service and shipping protection...the first examples of "you didn't build that" that were paid for by the public but existed primarily to promote commerce

I’m willing to bet that the history of my post here show me to be conservative, both in ideology and fiscal policy. That said I was taught early on that my rights end where your rights begin.

Anyone who has ever taken any basic economics course KNOWS the value of government spending as it relates a country’s fiscal stability. If I were to guess more than 80% of our GDP can be traced back to government spending. If don’t understand research the multiplier effect. There is a absolutely nothing wrong with government spending at face value. But, what is more important is the question of how those dollars are spent and what overall effect it has on the economy.

As far as the US going broke, remember who controls the printing press. We can always print ourselves out debt.
