When bidding on free fall items, how long does it take to be notified that you have won?

Should be within minutes.

You don't, technically, "bid" on freefall auctions. If you check the "I confirm this purchase" box and then hit "buy now" you will purchase the item at the price that is showing as the "Current Price" and you should receive confirmation of your purchase immediately.
