Yesterday we lost one of America's post-war heroes, one of her most famous aviators. The first man to break the sound barrier, General Chuck Yeager.

General Yeager was a fighter pilot in WWII, a jet age test pilot, the first man to break the sound barrier in an aircraft, amongst many other things. His test flights in some incredibly dangerous aircraft helped pave the way for all sorts of advancements in aircraft, spacecraft, missile development and some of the groundwork for us to go to the moon. 1940s and 50s aviation was a wild place.
