I am currently deployed and I've never used this site before.

I am wondering what kind of humidity control measures they take when shipping. Is it enough for up to 6 weeks in a metal box? Or should i get it shipped to someone back home to repack it with extra boveda packs?

Also, I am new to cigars and wouldn't mind some recommendations on cigars.

Third to answer you question no they do not ship with boveda packs but you can certainly buy them here. If you can I’d go sealed plastic over metal but that’s not a deal breaker we’ve had members here deployed use ammo cans.

When I said metal can, I meant the plane or ship that the military will send mail overseas on.

I will probably get someone to put them in an extra cigar box with some packs, then seal the box in plastic so that the harsh shipping conditions won't ruin my cigars

My unit is working on an APO right now. They've been dicking us around for the past month and a half, but we should have the address soon. I'll message you when I get it.

I just had two decent orders arrive in Kuwait from CI/Cbid...they made the trip just fine in the plastic five packs and samplers. One box was lost in Chicago for two weeks. Some got beat up because they decided to ship a small traveldor in a 24"x24" box with the $200 cigars I bought. Needless to say they had a lot of room to move about.

At this time of year they will make the trip....just toss them in a tupperware container and let them sit for a week to rehydrate.

Depending where you are...you can buy some cigars locally. (but not at any of the markets). In Kandahar, I was able to buy some from the Dutch and French "BXs"...not sure if any of them are still around. If you do order from a stateside place, I would just be prepared to put them in a humidor for a few weeks regardless. I used two different options....1. A cheap wood humidor that I had to put in a large ziploc bag. 2. One of the 30 count "pelican style" travel humidors. Both worked fine. In a pinch, you can just use good, freezer ziplocs with some boveda packs, or something in that realm. If you get the humidity up to the 70s, you are risking trouble. When you go to smoke them, they tend to "explode". They will dry out super fast and the cigar will just start to fall apart.
