I'm at wits end here. I have a humidor that will not hold humidity. I have used Boveda packs with no luck in getting this RH above 60%, let alone the 72% that the packs provide. I am using 2 packs by the way for about 22 cigars. I am using a HUMI CARE Digital which may or may not be accurate. Salt test puts it at around 69-70% so I think I'm about 5% off accuracy.
I have moved the smokes into a Tupperware, with the hygrometer and the 2 bovedas and the reading is 54%!

Wtf am I doing wrong? Do I need 3 bovedas?? for 22 cigars that seems like a lot doesn't it?

I'm pretty sure that I need both a new HUMI and Hygrometer, but whats with the Tupperware not holding humidity? Am I just doomed to smoke brittle sticks for eternity?

Second, have you properly seasoned your humidor? I have had issues with this in the past and I have found that purchasing the 84% Boveda packs, 1 for each 25 cigar capacity of the humidor, works really well. Just set them inside the humidor, close it, and no matter how much you want to check it, leave it closed for two weeks.

Third, invest in a digital hygrometer that can be calibrated. for 20 bucks you can pick up a digital hygrometer and a Boveda calibration kit. This is key to knowing what the RH is in your humidor.

Finally, If you're using Boveda packs in an airtight tupperware, it should be able to maintain +- 3 % of what the Boveda is rated at. I use 4 69% 60g Bovedas in my tupperdors that each have around 80-100 cigars in them. The temp is usually around 66 degrees F and the RH hangs from 66-67%.

this was very helpful and thanks. I don't think the humidor is properly seasoned. I think I will do the boveda cali thing. As for the Tupperware, my humicare is showing a 56% with a temp of 74, with 2 boveda 72% packs in there, so maybe the rh isn't as bad as I think?

Screw wooden humidors unless you really want to spend time maintaining it.

Well-sealed containers with a Boveda, just trust the pack. Forget the hygrometer. I keep my cigars in a Pelican case with a dozen 65% Bovedas and a pound of heartfelt beads, gave up on hygrometers, just let the beads and Bovedas do their thing. When the beads turn all white, I saturate them completely and the excess ends up swelling the Bovedas. As long as I see changes in the beads and packs, I'm happy.

I have a fancy ass desktop humidor. Not China crap, a proper handmade desktop humidor. I treat it like the Pelican case with beads and Bovedas, but it does require a lot more attention, at least monthly I have to resaturate the beads.

Anyway. Bovedas are a reliable two way system. If you eliminate air leaks, they'll do their thing. Forget the meters, gauge by how chit smokes. Once you got it dialed in, in a sealed environment, you're golden. No more worrying.

Well said Dan I still keep my wooden one full but it’s just to stop me from opening my sealed units
I always have to add somthing to the wooden one. It’s 20 to 30 rh in my house now so keeping humidity up in the wooden one takes patience

A sistema klip it brand tupperdor works well. If humidity is low where you live buying an airtight tupperdor will do the trick

I think I have the 19Qt. Hold three cedar trays and there is a bunch of room on the sides for loose cigars.

I use plain foam humidifiers as well. Water and propylene glycol. I haven't tried other stuff because I always found this fairly easy and inexpensive, works well for me. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

I'm not joking. I've tried beads, those jars with little blue/black balls in them, Boveda packs, water pillows, errthang. I eventually came back to the plain old green foam humidifiers in my desktops, Humi-Care EH plus electronic humidifiers in my wine fridges. Guess what those electronic humidifiers have in them? Green craft foam. I don't even run them most of the time. I take the fan part off and just leave the box in there. Checking my fridges now, one of them is at 64% humidity and the other is at 62% humidity. Perfect.
