the basics: authors who write text books typically refer to their own personal experiences and may unintentionally make examples out of things, events, places that are common in the author's environment/culture but aren't in the culture of a child from a poor and disadvantaged area...for example; references to travel on an airplane or a boat, or playing lacrosse, or soccer, types of food, movies, TV shows...
