If the logs ended up in their current location after passing through a large orifice covered with a slick substance, then the first half of the log would wipe it clean and be covered in this lubricious matter and it would change the surface energy of the log. So the two halves would behave quite differently when submersed in water.

One half of the log was packed with fiber, the other half, not so much. Logs follow the FIFO process - first in first out.

I'm pretty sure logs are all fiber..

The top half is where all the knots are and more dense, so sinks in the drain.

Trees rot from the ground up, so the bottom half would be eaten out and hollow .. ish. ,
swirling around the eddie.

(What's going to happen to Eddieee?) ... CRAP!

It helps to know if the tree made a sound when it fell....
