This is a totally-useless-college-major with a big student-loan debt-story:
One of my kids borrowed $60k and moved to Boca Raton for college. Bad decision IMO at the time. Her degree is in food and beverage management or something else stupid like that- because it just was the shortest and easiest path to her getting a degree from the **School of Business**.
She was also her sorority's treasurer for two years in a row. They paid for everything for her to go out of town for a bunch of times for accounting, business and leadership seminars, put on by the national sorority (she/we got out of paying for any of this personally by teaching her to ask the board to clearly put the total of her projected expenses in her annual budgets to be approved).
Anyhow, she also worked part-time while in school selling shoes and jewelry at Lord and Taylor and was an assistant manager at a busy national jewelry store, all commission jobs.
So, she had "the whole "futureless-major college experience+++" like some are so critical of... but also a nice, real resume after the four years and all her hard work. It got her interviews right away and she took a sales job at a large national company. They have, thankfully kept her employed during the entire shutdown. She was even promoted and wants to live in Boca. And this was how she got herself set-up there.
Just 24 years old.
Had a B.S. major.
Is almost $60k in debt.
Now, she is waiting to see what Biden might do about paying-her loan off or getting a refi, while still paying her private note it in full- each and every month. Worst scenario is she has it paid off in less than 10 years, but my bet is it will be sooner than that.
