Well, this week is starting off on the wrong foot. We spent the last 3 days at the mountain house and got home last night. This morning at 5:30 as I was getting ready for my morning 5 miler I realized I had left my trail running shoes. That is not a problem because I have 5-6 pair in rotation all the time but that pair had my custom orthotics in it. Big problem when you do 12000-15000 steps every day before 7 am.

I have not tried running/walking or hiking without orthotics for something like 40 years due to my particular biomechanics. A trip back to get them would be 180 miles round trip so that is out. I just finished the morning walk but tried to stay on equestrian trails which are more forgiving than my normal streets. One hip already feels slightly weird. 🤦

Brain scan today. Been up all night as they want me to be awake and sleep deprived for 8 hrs prior to the test.

I wonder if they'll find anything inside that skull of mine...

:-k

I'd be really trippy if I dropped a hit of acid an hour beforehand.

Nothing serious. Had a few black out seizures the past couple of years and they are trying to figure out why.

Running theory is I might have low level epilepsy or sumptin. No history of seizures or epilepsy that I know of in my family. Been to two neurologists (wanted a second opinion) and both say the same so I've been on low dose anti-seizure meds (Keppra) and haven't had an incident since (that I know of). They still want to monitor it. Two MRIs, two EEGs over this past year.

I gave up my driver's license until the Docs and I are confident that it's under control. I don't know if I could live with myself if I woke up in the ER and learned that I T-boned a minivan or hopped a curb killing someone as a result of me having an episode behind the wheel. That would really suck.

I asked the tech (not that specific question) but she said that she'll leave it up to the Dr. to read the results. What a cop out. When I mentioned CROS, she told me to go home and get some sleep.

The tech was cool, said she's been doing it for 33 yrs and preferred the old fashioned way of attaching the electrodes (conductive paste) rather than the new skullcap/swimmers cap thingy which uses some sort of fine corkscrew thingies that dig into your scalp.

I thanked her and drifted into a mild slumber until the 3 minute hyperventilation phase followed by the 3 minute strobe light test.

A rather odd test if you ask me... sleep deprive the patient then try to initiate a seizure in a controlled setting. "Good news, Bucky, we found the part of your brain that is misfiring. Bad news, we might have to sew your tongue back on."

Hello, folks. Off to the lap pool to get some real exercise. Haven't had any in like 10 years. Swam 500 yards Friday as a fluke and loved it like I used to. I was sore all weekend, but in a good way. Back in the day I swam 1.5-2miles or more after riding my bicycle 25-50 miles in the morning. That was around 30 years ago while I was still in school. Can't ride anymore, but could likely do a Peloton. We'll see...

I was thinking I may need to get the Masi Grand Criterium down thats been hanging in the garage for 3-4 years and try riding again. After my last unrepair surgery on my knee it didn't like spinning but maybe now a 20 mile ride would be better than walking. Used to ride centuries often years ago.

My poor swimming is the only thing that kept me from entering the Iron Man back when I was insane.

My swimming abilities also kept me out of the iron man competition... I also couldn't run or bike and had no interest in training, but the swimming was really the final straw...
