Don't quote me, but what I recall is the Bowie knife was created for Jim Bowie. The exact original maker is debatable. Design varied pretty widely and was altered over the years.

Believe there is a variant known as the Cherokee Bowie and is falls within the general range of the "traditional" Bowie stylrs, but also believe that was named retroactively once the JB legends gained popularity
