So Lincoln being an atheist is supposed to make people like him less?

I've never even considered the religious beliefs of passed presidents. So many closet atheists now in this day in age, can't even imagine what it was like back then.

I like to think most people that claim to be religious, but never go to church, never open a book of their dogma... are simply in the closet. They're probably gay too.

Jefferson believed in God, but dispensed with the mysticism of organized churches, and was a deep thinker on moral and religious matters, it helped shape his views on liberty and the proper role of government no doubt. I know that really irritates some progressives here. Oh well!

Lincoln on the other hand was “an infidel.” according to Colonel Ward Lamon, a close friend of Lincoln.
Judge David Davis, who managed Lincoln’s presidential campaign wrote that Lincoln “had no faith, in the Christian sense of the term . . .” Even Mary Todd Lincoln said, “Mr. Lincoln had no hope, and no faith, in the usual acceptation of those words.”

So it's funny that the Lincoln Cult professes to know he was a God-fearing man and they know what was in his mind and in his heart when about as close to religion Lincoln got was plagiarizing poetic lines from the sermons of ministers of his time.
As Ira D. Cardiff wrote in his 1943 book, The Deification of Lincoln
"They desire a supernatural Lincoln, a Lincoln with none of the faults or frailties of the common man, a Lincoln who is a savior, leading us to democracy and liberty —though most of said readers (and listeners) are not interested in democracy or liberty—except for oratorical purposes."
They needed a mythical messiah to come to earth, to wipe away their white guilt and absolve all the sins of slavery. I guess another federal holiday is supposed to serve a similar purpose? Probably with Saint Abraham raised on the altar with Joe Blow Biden reciting the Emancipation Proclamation from a teleprompter and preaching "America is a systemically racist country"! 😇

Cardiff also wrote, "It is one of the strange and puzzling features of human psychology that the truth is so often unpleasant and unacceptable, or perhaps more correctly that the truth is unpleasant to so many people, only a small minority being interested in it."
