1- cabbage
2- onions (I like vidalia type but you decide)
1/2 cup water
2- cans concentrated tomato soup (14 or 15 ounce size type cans)
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
juice of 2 lemons
12 gingersnaps
2 lbs hamburg (some prefer ground turkey or whatever) made into meatballs whatever way you like the meat in stuffed cabbage.

1- Remove core and rough chunk cut cabbage and onions

2- Put in large oven-safe pot

3- In separate bowl mix together soup, water, sugars and lemon juice

4- Pour mix over cabbage and onions in pot

5- Boil for 45 minutes, stir often

6- Add meatballs, lower heat and simmer 30 minutes (cover optional)

preheat oven to 350

7- Add crushed gingersnap cookies and remove from heat

8- Put pot in oven for about an hour, cover optional.
Check and stir a few times...do not let it dry out. Might need to add water, I have never had to do so.
Cook until cabbage is very soft.

hope I didn't forget anything.

Man that sounds sugar sweet! When I make red cabbage I add a tablespoon of sugar and apples for sweetness.

You ever have whole head smoked cabbage? It’s a great alternative for vegetarians and I like making it for a side dish with pulled pork.

May have to try making this for my daughter.

I'm not a fan of overly sweet and though this sounds so sugary, somehow it works out.
Like any recipe, I'd expect folks to tinker with it though.

Never heard of whole head smoked cabbage, pretty sure I'd like it.

Think I'll try it, but the sugar will be ditched. Prolly switch the soup to spicy tomato paste with no sugar and add some sun dried tomatoes. For some reason I think I'll add a shot of Chopin. Z, how do you smoke a whole head of cabbage?

Sounds great. Should it be served with Beano?

Sounds very good...

May try it some "bad weather Sunday" when I have time and get most of the non perishable ingredients before hand...

I absolutely love cabbage...one of the top FIVE DO NOT EAT THIS for diverticulitis though...
Oh well☹️☹️☹️

great bad weather Sunday food. Much more interesting than chili.
Easier than softening cabbage leaves and rolling up a million of them.
Thicker "gravy" too.

I make small meatballs just so there will be more when I freeze the leftovers.

Literally just smoke a whole head for 3-5 hours.

Split in half when done then sat and pepper.

A Weber with natural gas…..and here I though you were better than a modern liberal.

#yikes

Yeah if you have a buddy with a smoker have him do it, but if your Weber has the capacity to do an indirect charcoal cook you can do it.

You are hereby informed of a 90 day suspension of your man card. I highly suggest you immediately discard those panties, head to your nearest Dillard's and purchase some boxer briefs.Move on down to Sears and find a dude with a full beard and large gut........talk smokers with him,if he starts talking bout camping trips in a van down by the river you must resist the temptation and move on to the next dude with a full beard and a large gut.I understand you are in Massachusetts and this may take a while but once you find that manly dude you'll know it.Buy the recommended smoker he suggest and on the way home buy his favorite beer.On arrival fill smoker with wood, not the first bearded dude's but real wood, light wood on fire, place huge amount of meat on smoker. While meat is smoking drink all the beer, pass out and wake to burnt meat. This and 89 days will restore your man card.........but only if you stay away from the first bearded dude in Dillard's, if not the whole 90 day process starts over again.
