So Rammie... whataya know about the Rad Rover?

It's an electric bicycle. Got a 750kw motor... does about 20-25 mph. Would be good for short trips to the gym and store and stuff. My truck doesn't even get up to temp half the time I use it.

They average around $1,500.

Thought about getting one... 🤔

I thought about getting an electric bike to tool around town. I see a handful of people around town that have them - they zip around at about 30 MPH. State laws have some limits on the max speed they can go and the wattage they can have before they need to be registered and licensed as a motor vehicle (at least here in MA). The RMV wants their money after all.

But after looking at them online and the price, I can't justify $1,500 just to be lazy. I can peddle my mountain bike just fine and get some exercise while doing so.

There are conversion kits where you can swap out the front or rear wheel with a electric powered one. $500-ish, most of the cost is in the battery pack. I'm considering this route but again, my conscience kicks in and whispers "you lazy frank" into my ear.

Many of the E-bike makers rate the specifications to meet state regulations (speed and wattage) but in reality, you can go faster than advertised. One guy I talked to says he can do 35 MPH on flats, 45 MPH going down a modest hill.

You ain't real bright, are ya?

You said I go to the gym to exercise (ergo - not lazy), then you tell me to ride a bike to exercise (which you already said I do at the gym), and then you call me lazy... (after already admitting that I exercise).

I didn’t say you ride a bike at the gym numnutz.

Ride a bike to the gym for your cardio,
Do strength and conditioning at the gym,
Then pedal your ass home for more cardio,
Then grab your whiskey bottle and a cigar.

Duh…

My parents bought a pair for runabout while camping. Can run 10 miles into town for a meal or little supplies that don't warrant driving (and parking) a crew cab diesel dually to pickup a pack of paper plates or something.

Buddy with a big class a motorhome did the same. Initially bought a 50cc scooter but indiana law changed and they have to be registered and insured as motorcycles now so he bough an e bike.

For quick trips they're great. I enjoy my pedal bike but I'd never commute on it because best I can maintain is 10mph. If I had one I'd ride it to work. Bike trail nearby goes right past the hospital, it's 12 miles. If I had an electric bike with 30 mile range that could sustain 15 I'd have the same commute time and save 3 gallons of gasoline per trip.

Get one.

Go for the EV bike, who wants to get all sweaty just to go shopping and stuff, or just bebop around town. Just for short trips, would not go much out-side of town though.

Bought a moped for wife back in the day, used it every day for work,75mpg didn't need license, insurance or helmet. It was great for stealth deliveries at night for me too.

(Mental note: Do not follow this thread... it will cost me a minimum of $500 as they are feeding the devil on my left shoulder and starting to outweigh the angel on the right shoulder).

I rode a friends Honda Spree for about a 6 months to and from classes back in college when I busted up my ankle and couldn't drive my motorcycle.

I wonder if you can still buy them things? Prolly need to still get it registered with the RMV though.
