Stogie and wb got it right.

I do that to trees that I want dead too. Cut em down 6" from the ground, drill a few holes vertically through the trunk and fill with herbicide at full strength.

The plant above ground and below ground can be considered two separate entities depending on things. Without leaves it will try to find a new place to grow leaves. Without roots it has a very short time to try to tap back into soil.

Take out the leafy bit and poison the root system.

I used Roundup on some of the sprouts in the past but they keep coming back. Guess I will have to dig up each spot which is spread over about 6' X 6' area and hit them again. Thanks guys.

I got some wicked bamboo I am working on now for the GF. This **** is going to be a challenge. Local chemical company says they got something for me.

With that, I like to plug a couple holes vertically through the trunk as well... but I prefer them alive.
