I think you're missing the point, Brew. While confiscation is definitely a concern with a registry, blatant and possibly intentional recklessness with this information puts hundreds of judges and thousands of police/government workers at risk of retribution from people who feel they've been wronged. Additionally it made available a shopping list for any criminal looking to add to their personal arsenal.

This is an interesting thread... only because of the general lack of discord...

I suggest we go back to something where tension levels are a little more familiar... like an abortion thread.

This one is just a little too tame for comfort...

Bucky I don’t know what you mean by data breach, they Cal DOJ happened to “update” the system and made this info readily available. When I read breach it has a connotation that it was nefariously taken, where here it was readily given away and Bonta the POS waited 48 before even acknowledging that it happened.

What I meant by "data breach" doesn't necessarily mean that it was caused by an external attack but more of a gap in the data security defense. A breach can come from behind the walls of your defenses like leaving a door open to the database, network, oversight or flaws in the system.

Maybe a better word would have been exposure.

The better word is probably just “released”!

We also have a statewide database for all handguns. I wonder when we’ll release that one.

Yeah but, "released" kinda means it was intentional. Not knowing the situation, I can't take it to that level. I'm guessing it was an oversight and not intentional.

With that said, intentional or not doesn't make it right. They failed on keeping personal information that they collected secure and in doing so violated many security laws both at the state level and the federal level which should be investigated and dealt with appropriately.

I won't hold my breath, though. They'll do a thorough investigation and do a press release on page 85 of the newspaper (right next to the Ann Landers letters but before the obituaries) that says "Ooopsie" and then they fire a low level web designer dude or an intern to show they are serious and mean business.

I apply the “California factor”. We hate guns. We hate the 2nd amendment. We even hate cops. Our urban counties pretty much refuse to issue concealed carry permits.

Kinda smells like the Roe versus Wade leak.

Can we set up a bunch of deep level charges at the San Andreas Fault and cast of CA to float way into the ocean? We could really use some terraforming at that end of the country.

Maybe just let them secede from the union so they can become a third world country on their own.

Bro if it could be done I’ve already dreamed it.

No. Drafter stayed in Wonder once so I’m pretty sure him staying the night nailed our topography down pretty good. We called it the Oklahoma Tent Stake Affect.
