Ive had a tupperdore with about 15 sticks cranking along for a few months at a perfect 69% RH, using 4 bovedas. a few days ago I added 4 smokes and now the RH is 71%.
Cellos are off. Im using a Cigar Oasis digital Hygrometer and its reading a temp of 71 degrees.
Is this normal? Am I overthinking this? Why am I obsessed with this crap now?

Yes it’s been raining! I didn’t make the connection!
Btw I’m going to reduce the Bovedas to 65% soon

I'd check it periodically, but probably will regulate itself over time. Maybe crack the lid periodically to let some drier air in?

New cigars were prolly stored at higher RH and arrived that way, raising the humidity in the container...crack the lid open a bit for a day or few...then close the lid and see what the RH is. This happens frequently and is the reason why most folks don't smoke cigars ROTT, letting them sit for a few weeks.

definitely overthinking it ha. 4 bovedas is a bit much for just 15 cigars in an airtight environment hence the slight spike. You could get away with one or two. Boveda advertises 2 for every 25 cigars. As long as the cigars burn and taste fine you're good. I prefer lower humidity around 65%.

Ok I’m revisiting as this is still odd. I’m still showing a RH of 70%-71% after about 2 weeks
These are the first store bought smokes I’ve gotten in a while and I wonder if they can really have been that over humidified to send the RH that high. I have 2 Boveda 69s and 30 sticks, some with the cello on and some off ( the 4 purchased ones cello is off)
I’m just OCD to let this drive me nuts..

what's the ambient humidity in the room where your cigars/humidor are kept? if it's higher than 70, you might need some silica dessicant packs to remove the excess humidity ...if you have an empty cigar box, let it sit in a place with low humidity, then put your just delivered cigars in it for a few days (this is called "dry boxing"), while monitoring the RH inside...

BTW, most of the long-time cigar smokers here don't abide by the 70 RH "gospel" ...most prefer low 60's

This is a tupperdore. One of those Sistema things with 2 cedar trays. I feel it could hold about 100 sticks. So I should stick a few more Bovedas in there?
I have a dry box in putting the new ones in. We’ll see how it goes
