So far I have ordered from here several times spending about $200 each time, I've noticed very inconsistent sticks between all the major but affordable brands like Oliva O or rocky Patel, macadura, romoe and juletia, Chobi, and many more any else have that problem here almost like they are rejects or something?

Couple things to consider:

1. You’re buying lower-end brands (…other than Oliva…) from an online discounter so you’re basically getting what you paid for. Iffin’ you’re relatively new to cigars, keep in mind that your palate will eventually / hopefully change over time and one day you’ll look back and think to yourself, “WhyTF did I buy so many of these chitty cigars? WTF was I thinking?” Of course ymmv.

2. Surprised that the Oliva Serie O is listed as the brand is still independently owned…but I’ve preferred the Serie G Maduros over the O so not as experienced with that line.

3. Rocky Patel - argh! Never had an RP that I wanted to buy more of.

Iffin’ you really wanna grow your cigar experience, get involved in the nOOb PIB, do some trades, etc. and elevate your level of cigars.

Good luck!

Buy chitty cigars and that’s what you get. Up your game and consistently will follow.

Oh, btw here’s a secret. Make your opening bid double what you think it will actually take to win because once your winning bid crosses a certain threshold they send you the real cigars instead of the factory rejects. On second thought to make sure you get the very best cigars triple your opening bid.

Finally why do you buy sticks? Do you like to smoke wood?

I smoke higher priced cigars aswell but why are these cigars rated 90 or better and performance is sub par, I buy these same cigars for a long time from other places and they smoke really well.

Not sure where else you buy from (local shpo or online), but the ones shipped from internet vendors are notoriously overhumidified so they survive the mail journey. That may be why they are smoking like chit. I generally wont touch a mail order cigar for at least 30 days after arrival. It goes into the tupperadore and relaxes down to 65%rh and after about four weeks of rest, I try one and see if it's ready.

If yall say these cigars are chatty then why are yall even here with over 60k post omg seems like someone has issues ill move on and order elsewhere

mikeygraves wrote:

Well you can do that for sure.
A couple points.
The cigars you listed are OK. Some will call them yard gars, for others, they are premiums.
It’s kind a moving goal line…….some folks here wouldn’t smoke a single one off your list because for them, those cigars suq.
Other folks won’t smoke them because they are too expensive, they are bundle hunters.
There are some external factors which may be contributing to the issues you are having with these particular cigars.

You got a bad batch……….it happens.
You didn’t let them rest enough……most online retailers keep their product at very close to 70rh and if the RH in your storage system(s) is similar, you wont have a good experience since most experienced cigar smokers will tell you 70 is too high resulting in burn and flavor issues.
Your storage system is sub par, and after sitting for a few months or more, the RH is too high , or too low.

Well, see this was actually a way better reply than the last guys I'm just a little annoyed my humidor is steady at 69% so I'll take that advice and them them sit some more as far as pricing goes it's ok to throw away some cheap cigars is not my issue, it's more about geting a supposed to be good cigar out sit down to smoke it and it don't smoke,

The only reason I mentioned rejects is because I seen somewhere else people talking about online retailers selling rejects for super cheap

It’s not for the cigars. This place has changed quite a bit since many of us joined.

Perhaps later I’ll have time to explain. At the moment I’m on my way to Florida so I can’t take the time needed to type it out. Check back in a few hours. I’ve got about 90 miles left to drive. If im not too tired I’ll write a post that should help you.

Depending on who is doing the rating / review and when, I wouldn’t necessarily expect it to be a true reflection of the current cigars being sold . If a cigar was rated 95 but it was over 10 years ago, I wouldn’t take much stock in it.

Ok, now we are getting somewhere.
First, 69rh is too high. There are azz clowns who swear by the 70/70 rule……………they don’t know chit.
Now, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you don’t own a $1,000+ hygrometer.
Most likely you have a regular analog, or digital one that cost you less than $50.
Regular cheapo hygrometers are NOT spot on, typically off by 1-3%, or more!

So, your hygro says your humi is at 69, but maybe it’s off by 2%, so it might actually be 71.
See where I’m going?
69 is waaaay to close to the danger zone.
Drop your RH to 65………sooner than later.
Many here go for low 60s.

In the mean time, dry box cigars that are giving you trouble, until you get your storage down to 65.
Dark thick Oscuro, maduro, and broadleaf wrappers REALLY SUQ at high RH….taste funky and burn like chit.
Mid to low 60s is best for them.
Connies are OK at slightly higher RH levels, and actually aren’t that great at real low RH imho.

What do you use for humidity control?
Finally, there are, in my opinion, better options, at similar prices, than the cigars you listed above.
Just sayin….

Okay Mikey....

First, I need to make a few disclosures.

1) I have no filter and really DGAF if I pi$$ someone off.

2) I'm probably going to initially pi$$ you off with this. But enjoy the ride because at the end you'll learn a few things and realize I'm only about 98.2% the azzhole I sound like.

3) Many of the people who post here have actually traveled 100's to 1,000's of miles to meet up and smoke together. So, by virtue of the fact that you just joined you're an outsider.

4) These forums have been here 20-25 or more years. Some people posting here regularly were among the first to join. Things have changed in that time.

I'm sure you've heard the expression: Location, location, location. Think of this place as a location. Also, always know the crowd you're working before you work it.

The reason you got the response from me that you did is because your initial post sounded like something someone who had just stepped up from the Black & Mild bottom rung of the cigar world to maybe rung 2 or 3, but thought he was king of the hill. Then you continued digging a hole with your other responses. One example is anyone who smokes the chitty cigars doesn't have a sophisticated enough palette to smoke really high-quality expensive cigars. Also, I'm not sure what you define as expensive, but I seriously doubt you'd smoke that crap, yet pony up for what some of us regularly smoke.

As far as why are we here if we don't buy from here, there was a time when great cigars could be found here. But that is becoming all too rare. Many of the cigars you mentioned don't in anyway resemble cigars of the same brand 10, 20 years ago. Many of those brands who were once family owned have been sold to one of the conglomerates now driving the cigar world. In fact, do a little research on CigarBid and find out who its parent corporation is, then find out who owns that corporation. I'll give you a hint. The parentage of the cigar brands you mentioned will be somewhere in that mix.

Before, when family owned those cigars the blend and quality were consistent. Year after year the tobacco was bought from the same farmers and rolled in the same factories. Not anymore. Now the blend changes from year to year or even within a year based on available tobacco. They're not even always rolled in the same factories from batch to batch anymore. It's all about what's available when a batch needs to be made to bring inventory of a particular bland to minimum warehouse stocking level. Hopefully, now you understand the issues of quality and consistency.

As far as Rocky Patel's are concerned. Many people here will laugh at the mention of that brand. See paragraph above.

As far as ratings are concerned, its meaningless. In many instances the ratings you refer to don't reflect current construction. See paragraph above if you need clarification. Check out the magazines where these numbers are given. See if the ad buys corelates to the rating level. For example, the Alec Bradley Prensario was once the cigar of the year. Yet, AB's are notoriously one of the worse rolled cigars out there. In a 5 pack, one can expect 4 of them to either burn very uneven up to and including tunneling, to be plugged or most likely both. The Prensario was no exception.

So where do you go from here? That's up to you. There are actually quite a few guys who will gladly mentor you if you want. You'll find it's well worth it. Hell, I'll even toss out a morsel here and there. I dropped in 12-13 years ago and have learned more than I ever thought I could learn. To give you a sense of this community, I've traveled 1,000's of miles to meet up with guys here for fishing trips. I regularly talk with a handful of folks here on the phone, and text many almost daily. One guy who has posted in this thread has on multiple occasions timed his vacations and flown 6,000 miles or more round trip to meet with groups of members here to smoke and drink.

There is lots of great knowledge that can be had from the regulars here, but to avail yourself to this vast knowledge you need to become a member of the community. Otherwise, you're just another stranger passing through and will be regarded as such.

Take it for what it's worth.
