I play every weekend variety/ dance band.

I picked up a hobby of guitar repair and set up.
Recently got in to tube amp repair.
Now I'm working on building my own amp.
It's good fun.

I’ve been playing instruments since 1st grade, and I’m not a musician. I didn’t consider myself a musician when I was in concert band at any grade level, marching band, or even in my 20-30’s when I have played for $ or free beer.

I enjoy it though and currently only own guitars (4) and two small modeler amps, no brass/woodwinds/viola/cello/drums/piano/bass guitar or stand up bass (all things I’ve played at one time or another. One of my guitars is a Tele knock off I have tuned to open G for KR stuff. My daughter has a Byrdland knock off she loves playing. Sometimes we play together but more often than not she’s playing to learn some weird song some group on YouTube plays or a theme song to an anime.

Well worth the relaxation and enjoyment I think.

I played drums in school concert and marching band. Dad played in a band the whole time I was growing up.
I got my first guitar at 10. didn't really get serious till my 30's. Was 35 the first time i got on stage and got hooked.
I play guitar mostly. Bass a little. drums if i have to. lol. I have a lap steel and keyboard I tinker with.
It's as bad as cigars just more expensive. I have 12 guitars and I think 6 tube amps.

Used to. Ship sailed. Got to open up for a lot of acts that became national acts. Recorded material, played on college radio. Got to be a part of Arthur P's Homegrown Hour on WRIF. Noodle around with a few friends still. Have urges of creating new material and record it. Started and stopped several times with GarageBand and ProTools. Tried to teach a few grandkids...but immediate gratification got in their way.

Got rid of equipment I used to use years ago when I was playing gigs. Still miss the Ampeg SVT with Orange head. God, that thing could shake sliding doors off their tracks! I got over the attraction of a Fender P-Bass though. I still have my Ampeg BA15 that I'd use as a monitor and a 75w Line6 amp. The basses I still have are a Kramer-Ferrington Acoustic/Electric, Kramer Focus 420, Epiphone EB3, Squire Classic Jazz Vibe and a short scale Hamer. Of all the pedal I kept after off loading the rack mounted gear I had and the pedal boards was a DigiTech BA 200...which does everything I need to do...loops, Wah pedal, model cabinets, and effects it took hundreds of dollars to get all in one package. Thought I wanted a Gibson Blackbird back when it was new...wish I had of bought it. It appreciated nicely. Almost got a 70's Grabber with the movable pickup. I was talking with the guy that was selling it at a swap meet booth. His price was fair...some guy walks by and tells him that it's a collector's item and he looks at me and says he wants to keep it despite me reaching in my pocket for the cash...oh well.

Going back to Z's point on kits...a former poster I really respected here...AndyTV...made one. What made that stand out was he used his small children's hands with primary colors and lacquered over it. That was a very sharp looking guitar and a heirloom now...because.

I have played drums since i was about 7, Started with Rudimentary style Bass and Snare drum on Rope Tension drums. Played mostly Revolutionary war, war of 1812, and Civil War era music as well as did reenactments for all of those in a Fife and Drum Corp.

The Band i was in from about 9-18 did parades, various special events and ceremonies, Living history, and reenactments all over the east coast from Conn. to Fl. We were part of the Filming for the Movie Gettysburg and spent a few weeks on set, most of which was for the Pickets Charge scenes. We can be scene just before the fight although you only see a piece of my drum and not actually a pudgy underage me. We also recorded a few albums of period marching and dance music that was for the most part only sold at these types of events.

in high school i also started playing more drum set with a focus on jazz, swing, big band type stuff although i did play rock with various friends just having fun. in the mid 90s i was recruited (by the same band leader that ran the Fife and Drum Corp) to play in a 12 piece band that played ... jazz, big band, swing, blues and the like. he was asked to put this band together for the 96 Olympics and mostly played in Savannah for the Sailing games Olympians at events held for them. both the Fife and Drum Corp and Big Band went to Georgia for 6 weeks. we played almost every day and even got to play for Margaret Thatcher, Colin Powell and John Forbes at one of the events.

At the time i wanted to be a professional musician however this trip showed me that i had NO IDEA what i was getting into lol. at the end of the trip i decided i was not going to pursue such a career and to be honest... i wasn't really good enough to make it past stuff like this anyway. i was never going to be a band leader, i was never going to be famous, i was probably destined to play events like this and if i was lucky be a session musician for some new artist that didn't have a permanent band yet. so i gave it up, now i just play for fun. while living in Turkey i was part of a Blues band that was made up of all State department and expats. we played at a local bar and just got free drinks out of the deal. Probably the most fun i have ever had with music. we would take pop songs and create blues versions of them as well as play some of the standard blues/rock stuff everyone expects.

Now as i recover from a broken shoulder and torn rotator cuff, i just look at my drums and hope i can play again some time soon. i never learned any other instruments besides a few basic cords on Guitar and can barely read music.

Not too brag but I'm pretty good at the air guitar...

I bought a few acoustic guitars and made a pact with them that I would learn to play them (a promise that I have not fulfilled in). I love the sound of acoustic guitars so I wanted to learn to play them. Nothing complicated just some campfire music and stuff to start out. Learn to play watching YouTube vids to get the chords down and go from there. It looks so easy to do but I did not put in the time to learn it. Over the years, I did not abide by that pact. They stared at me in the comer of the room.

There are about 4 or 5 acoustic guitars that I ended up donating over time to the local music store and local schools so hopefully they would find someone that could give them the life they deserved to make music.
