Steve Smyth (FromSteveS) passed away today.

He's one of the originals from the early days of CBid.

An original BOTL, I think I may have got him into trouble when I sent a small care package to him at his care facility.
His mobility was limited, but he liked to sit outside to enjoy the sun and sometimes reminisce with his barber friend. Even though he smoked "terrible" cigars according to Steve.

Light one up for Steve.
It's the least we cand do.
Ever since the newbies stopped sending him a cigar to punctuate their initiation this place has gone down hill...
No wonder the Platinum Club has withered away.

Wow...I'm at a total loss.

He was one of the 1st guys here that helped me along my CBid way. A wealth of knowledge and a real nice guy. It's no secret that (even in my bio) my little way of getting back at him was "Send SteveS a cigar!!"....he would get them from many of you and write me a note. It was usually the same tone..."Dammmit...now I have to send them something back", or "Leave me alone, well I'll let this one time slide but no more!". Most of what I call the old timers that used to post here have moved on. Sad really. We're not guaranteed tomorrow and today is just a blessing to share.

I will be raising a glass of Glenfiddich 14 and smoking a Padron '64 and remember with fondness the man, the myth and the legend that was SteveS. I encourage all of you to do the same in your own way. He was a vaulted member of this world.

Godspeed, till we meet up.

I just herad the news from Tailgater about this. Saw his call on my cell but I was tied up at work and couldn't answer. I returned the call and he shared the sad news.

Another CBid Hall of Famer, another Mt. Rushmore bother passes to the next level.

When I joined here, one of the rules of a newbie entering into the CBid circus included sending SteveS a cigar. I guess the new introductory rule might be "Smoke a cigar in the name of SteveS."

He has some family here in MA and I'd hook up with him at times when he came to visit. I think there is a few pictures in the picture forum of a group of us HERFing on one of his visits.

RIP SteveS.

RIP SteveS

I hope you enjoyed the cigar I sent you, after DMV's all caps 100 point red letter browbeating nearly 10 years ago...

I'll smoke a good one in your memory.

During my shooting the $hit with him over the years, I asked where the "Send SteveS a cigar" came from. As I understand, it started as joke that grew it's own legs and folks ran with it so it turned into a pseudo requirement and he found it funny. When I joined and that "requirement" was given to me, I sent him a message to get his mailing address. At first he didn't give it to me (understandable) but with chatting with him via PM or whatever they had back in the day, we connected since I lived in MA only 30 minutes away from his son's family.

He eventually shared his mailing addy and his phone number and I sent him my obligated cigar newbie package to him. He was super funny to talk to.

It's another example that a random post can turn into a "requirement" for CBid forums and trades

Kinda like the 92.8% (or is it 98.2%) Cbid random statistic, the legend of the missing multi amputee CROS, camping down by the river with so and so. There are so many colorful examples of this stuff here in Cbid Forum land. A simple joke or comment can live on even after the member moves on.

I am blessed to know him.

I met him and Ann at a cigar function 20 years ago. He tells me about this crazy place called Cigarbid and a day later I join. The next time I saw him I gave him a cigar in person. Saved postage.

RIP SteveS
