What does everyone use to keep track of sticks they like or don’t like. Are we using an app or a book. Sorry if this is dumb question. New to smoking cigars

I used to use an app but I think they’ve been mostly run off as it’s not proper to run apps for evil things like cigars but it is if you want to find a dispensary, CBD or any of that nonsense. 🇨🇮

Keeping track of what one doesn't like seems to be much easier than what one does like.

Don't give up on you query. nOObs gonna get roasted a little,

I only keep track of what I've smoked. I keep a label and leaf stats journal, backed up by an Excel spreadsheet to avoid repeats.

For likes and dislikes I'm counting on my memory

I’m resigned to spreadsheets. I tried the cigar journal thing. You can get paper back style on Amazon cheaply and various formats. For reasons too boring to get in to, I decided the journal just wasn’t my thing. I haven’t started my spreadsheet yet but I think it will be easier because I can sort alphabetically or search by dates or wrapper or brand or from where I got the cigar or whatever row and columns I decide to use.

When I started getting into cigars I use to do a spreadsheet and log the name, filler, binder, wrapper, type of tobacco in each, the company that made them when I bought them and so on. It was helpful in the beginning as I was sorting out what I liked and what I didn't. I noticed a trend which sort of laid out my preferred "profile."

I don't keep track anymore, As new bends and cigars arrive on the scene, I read the description of the blend and who makes them and I get a good idea whether if will work for me or not. Also reading reviews from other folks that have a similar profile of tastes gives me some input on ones that I haven't tried and I should or one's that probably wouldn't fit me.

I'm just to damn lazy to log anything. If I like it I just do my best to hopefully remember or I'm already looking for more to buy. If I don't, I'm hoping it gets better when I've forgotten about it and find it later and it's older, or I send it to you azzhats.

I probably should get into logging I'll likely learn to discern different flavors more readily.

Again, revenge is a dish best served cold.

The nOOb move would be to fire off a buncha old, crusty smokes but as I’ve learned over the years (…from the FOGS…), the best is to lay in wait in the tall grass and POUNCE when the nOOB thinks he’s in the clear. :-"

I've used this log book I found on Amazon. It's pretty good.

I've used an on again off again easy system to remember the cigars I really like. I hang onto the band of each cigar I while I smoke it, and if it's a winner that has me wanting more, I'll immediately write small notes on the back of the main band and put it into an envelop with other bands of cigars I want to get. When the envelop gets sufficiently full, say 6-10, I'll do some shopping and use the notes I've written to determine the number of each cigar I'll buy.

All the other non-qualifier bands get tossed into the big pile of "discards": bands that my son uses to make mosaics with.

The above system works when I'm motivated...most other times I rely on memory to buy more cigars that are worthy...this works if the purchase is relatively soon after smoking the great cigar. But being cheap and lazy has its drawbacks when relying on memory: I don't like to buy small amounts, like a fiver or a single box because of the shipping costs (cheap). So I tend to consolidate purchases and usually forget something or get something wrong because I didn't keep notes/logs(lazy).

I use my mind, and my steel trap of a memory to remember. Problem is the memory associating trick my Russian teacher taught me is I drank a lot in that class…so I have to adhere to a strict regimen of drugs and alcohol.

I would recommend searching here for “The Thonginator” an old thread where Ray shows his memory trick for smaller cigars.
