Our federal government needs to return to the concepts of its original enumerated powers. I think the route to do this is through SCOTUS. The doolar amount to run the federal government should be calculated annually and each state would pay 1/51 of this total, I am including Puerto Rico in this as well. An amendment would need to be added to the constitution to eliminate federal taxes. Each state would create their own policies and laws as long as they are deemed constitutional. Federal laws would be kept to the necessary minimum needed. Each individual/family would live in the state that operated best in the way they want to live. Each state pays its own bills. There should be Ann annual payment to the federal government from each state to get our Democratic Republic out of debt. Each state would make 1/51 of the annual payment. There would be many existing laws deemed unconstitutional and deleted. Some laws would need tweeking. For example the federal government would be in charge of border control, but the border states would need to pass the exact same law. Once our debt is eliminated there would be a decrease in annual state payment for this debt removal. In other words, states rights take president, as the constitution originally stated, with minimal exception. Segment one of this idea. I would appreciate if you would add constructive criticism and laughter about this idea. State government will be a different topic discussed at a different time.

I’ll apply for a Federal grant to study this idea. Perhaps I can tie this to a solar initiative. In the meantime, you’ll get a bottom bunk assignment.

I think the tax burden is better computed on economy. The economies of California and Wyoming can’t be compared, not to mention population density. Also, Federal services are not equally distributed. California needs more defense / protection than Nebraska so the spending is not the same. Share of GDP should be more weighted than a simple equal division among states.

Sanders 1 is now a Constitutional "originalist"? That the correct interpretation of the text should be based on the original understanding of the document at the time of its ratification by the states. That's commendable.
But why "through SCOTUS" when most of those black-robed lawyers aren't originalists and don't even fully understand the original meaning of the words?

It is also a pipe dream that the Democratic Republic will ever get out of debt after 111 years of a central bank (the FED) monetizing the debt.
$35 trillion and still growing. When will the Titanic sink?

At face value it sounds good. But as they say the devil is in the details. Considering the fact that the founders through Article I gave Congress the power to pass laws we can never expect a consensus on what is or is not an expense directly related to the enumerated powers.

Look at section seven. The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

One could argue that every law passed by Congress since its inception not related to the common defense is for the general welfare of the nation. Doing so renders moot the rants about certain agencies, particular laws etc… ad nauseam being outside the enumerated powers.
