I have a covered porch/entry area so packages are dropped off there out of sight from the road.
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. For the most part I haven't had issues using USPS but I did have one recently.. To make a short story long I sent a computer back home to my folks via USPS.
I sent it a couple weeks prior to me leaving so it would be there when I got there to do the final set up. Somehow it made it to Chicago then it was sent back to me because there was no postage. WTF? Dropped it off at the post office window. They weighed it, measured it and I paid for postage. A week later it showed up on my porch with the postage thingy missing?
Sent it off again using expedited shipping so it would show up when I got there. For about a week the tracking number said it was still at my local post office. I was on the phone with them and they had no clue were it was. They lost it and there was nothing I could do. If it doesn't show up in 30 days, they said I I could make a claim. Yeah, I'm sure that will go smooth. I marked it up as a total loss so I bought another computer and set it up for them (I wanted to get another computer setup for technology challenged parents before I flew back).
I would check the tracking number every day or two to see if the package of the first computer popped up (where is Waldo). About 5 days later, that laptop somehow appeared in Springfield, MA then arrived in Connecticut, then back to Springfield, then somewhere in Albany, then Milwaukee, then Chicago... Just imagine a Bugs Bunny cartoon with the travel suitcase plastered with all of the travel stickers on it.
Eventually it finally made it to my parents house a day before I flew out so they now have 2 new laptops. The first one I sent, which took a leisurely tour of Eastern US, probably still sits in the shipping box in their living room.
8Track, if you need a laptop... stop by my parents' house. You know where they live. They have one that is still (probably) in an unopened box and they, probably, won't use it. If I remember correctly, there is a new wireless keyboard and mouse in the box too. I comes preloaded with all the software you need. You'll just have to link it to your WiFi and set it up for your printer and stuff.
Just give me a heads up so I can warn them ahead of time that some crazy person [jester] might come knocking at the door looking for a package.
