I had to move my electric humidor into my home office. Its a small room and gets hot in the winter. Baseboard heating. So, the RH became harder to manage with just Bovedas. I went from 62 to 69% packs and it was still low. I switched to the HumiCare Gel bottles (3 of them!)...still could not get the RH to stay around 65% which is my sweet spot.
Finally got a Xikar Gel thing, filled with Propylene, and also added a shot glass of DW and RH is rock solid at 64-65%
I get that the dry heat in the room was the cause, but why did all these other things not work and a glass of DW did the trick?

The DW is free and uninhibited. The gel is acting as your stabilizer but cannot release quick enough for an RH increase under current conditions. The DW is now your moisture source, as you are dealing with extreme conditions. Hot moves towards cold, always. The surface of the water is responding to the heat quicker than a gel is able. Organics have environmental memory. Personally, I've regressed. I use those glass dishes with airtight lids and boveda. Maybe I'll get a 1.5 cf wine fridge next time I buy a house. But if you really want to play hell, get a 4.5 cf wine fridge and set it up in the Mojave while running an evaporative cooler. I had a solid 61-63% running a similar humidity control.

Puff explain how you did that in terms I can understand. I’ve got a large 70 bottle wine fridge I converted. It’s ok with just boveda but I’d like the whole system to be more stable top to bottom. It’s almost as tall as a refrigerator. So my humidity varies. I basically use it as storage.

I would start with running a reptile humidifier or a fridgador humi and run that bad dog on low with just the furniture and humi in the fridge. Get it settled at 83% RH for about 3 weeks, considering the size. Then step it down to your RH about 1-2% per day. I'd place twice as many beads at the top as the bottom with a fresh water source in the middle. Then monitor it. That CF, I'd try 20-30 rolls at time while monitoring the humidity. I know the old 70&70, but I like to make it complicated with 65F and 62% RH. If your unit has vent ports, I'd go with an entirely different system. And being that large of a capacity, it just might for cork health.
