JC: They are good cigars, but as I and a few others have mentioned in other post's, they are over priced, and many more attainable good smokes out there for similar and less. I actually like the Don Carlos line better though many will disagree.
But, until one tastes one, one will always be curious. Hard to find them at MSRP, and basically hard to find them period. Though I've heard, this is the time they do appear in some shops.
Try one and let us know.

Had an Opus X robusto last night after a big steak at Morton's. It was powerful and tasty. It's a good smoke to have on hand for special occasions, wish I could afford to have them in my rotation

They show up in shops every year about this time. I just hauled in 3 today at $10-$13 ea. with a limit of three. A competing shop let me buy whatever I wanted but they were $12-$16 ea. I get a few every year and let them accumulate. I wouldn't dream of paying those $35-$45 internet prices, OUCH!

Just keep your eyes and ears open and if you're not a regular at a shop local to you, become one. Usually when shops get these they are very limited and only sell to preferred customers.

Be happy you do not live in California. I was in a shop a few days ago and they had all sizes of Opus X. The cheapest was $28.95 a stick.

I have 2 small OpusX sticks (not sure of the size....maybe robusto) that were given to me by a couple of fine CBid members. Thanks a bunch, guys. Should I try one of them to see what all the hype is about? That will still leave me with one. Hmm.....I don't know. I don't know if either of the shops I go to carry them. Maybe I should check with them before I try one of my own. What do ya'll think?

tarheel,
I'm not completely sure (first sign of aging) but I think I sent you one of those Opus. If I'm correct it's about 2 yrs old. Smoke It! If I'm wrong, Smoke it anyway. LoL

I'm terribly sorry, but I was so overwhelmed with all of the packages I was getting, I forgot to make a not of who sent what. I still have all of the notes that came with them. Some people wrote what they sent. I'll go back and check. I greatly appreciate all of the warm generosity everyone showed. I think I'll try one of those OpusX's sometime this week, if the weather will get better.

Just got back from "The Big Smoke" in Vegas. Went to a Davidoff cigar store in the MGM Grand where the cheapest Opus X was $40 and the most expensive was about $60. There's no way in Hell I am going to pay $40 for a smoke. Particularly since I stopped in a little Partagas shop on the strip on the way to the MGM Grand, and a guy in there was hand rolling 'gars with Honduran leaf and handing them out as you stood there. He had a little bowl for tips. One of the best smokes of the trip for $5, not to mention the fun of watching him roll them.

Wondering about the "Big Smoke" in Vegas. I spoke to a guy in NY who went to that one and he told me he came home with a bag full of complimentary cigars from the various manufactures. For $150 sounds like you'll break even just on the free gars???

donughtboy: I'm in Orange, CA. and there's a shop near me that has Opus X (2 sizes == one small and one gigantic) The small is $11.95 and the large is $19.95. Are you in Beverly Hills? If you're interested, email me at [email protected] and I'll give you their name and contact info.

I have tried many of the opus x sizes and the one I really enjoyed was the double corona. I know a place in oregon or washington that sells them at very fair prices, when they have them. Write me at [email protected] if you want the info.
