The best cigar shops are right on the main drag of the red light district, the further you get from the main drag the worse the cigar shops get....no wait thats the cat houses, you asked about cigars. The cat houses are the best place to smoke them... Hansen should know the best place to get them, I don't remember much from my stay there, but they do have some good Habanos shops:-)

Unklebill, sorry to dissapoint you. I'm not from the Netherlands, but from Denmark which is in the nordic region with Norway, Sweden and Finland. I know nothing about cigar shops, traditions and habits of the dutch.

if you are going to buy and bring back, how will you manage that? But I believe it is spelt Schipol airport in the Netherlands, if you are flying in there you are in luck! According to a recent cigar insider this is one of the cheapest places in the world to buy Cubans, and their selection was very good at the time of their inquiry. You are also in very good luck as the dollar is extremely stong there right now, you wouldn't believe how cheap I am getting my Montecristo's #2 for, and I get some romeos for a friend for under $4 a piece. So basically your problem will be finding a place that has a good selection. But also try to go to reputable cigar shops, as I doubt the conterfeit problem isn't very bad there, but be safe anyway. Every cigar I got from the Netherlands has been the real deal.

I too have found that the duty free shops at the airports are usually the best spots to purchase habanos.

Will they let you bring them in the USA if you buy from a duty free shop? Please, excuse my ignorance ...

Nope. I believe Cuba is the only country it's legal to bring a controlled amount of cigars into the US from.

Bill, have fun in Amsterdam. If you get the sticks back home, let me know (email me) if you're willing to part with any Monte #2's or anything else for a monetary compensation or trade 😉
