Does the humidity drastically effect the way a cigar smokes......... ie. how much different would the same cigar smoke kept at 70 % RH vs 75 %RH ? Thanks to all in advance.

well, SURE it makes a difference, but it's tough to quantify an answer to your question ...

However, think of how much differently a cigar would burn if you soaked it in water vs how it would burn if you dried and toasted it to beef jerky stage in the oven ... each step you take in either direction from 70 is one step closer to those ultimate ends ...

I guess I was wondering if it was the cigar or the humidity that madeit hard to smoke.....hard to draw and burned very slow.

No, NY .....but I think I had too many humidifiers (3)in the 120 humidor. I was under the assumption if they were charged with 50/50 PG it would maitain the humidity at 70 but it was been running near 75. I have the box opened now and removed 2 of the 3 and will try the same cigar in a few days.

Jerrya, you might not want to take two out. I also live in the North East. Depending on the type of heat you have they may dry out too quickly. Rick gave me some good advise a couple of months ago regarding rotating the gars as they are drying. It worked perfectly. Bottom line is do it slow. Also, it may not be entirely humidity, the gars may also be wrapped to tight. I can't help you there.

If the cigars are young they may well be too damp until they have some time to stabilize in your box. I don't ever encourage anyone to go above 70%RH, but at the risk of being flogged for going outside the lines, I will say that cigars down as low as 63 to 65% can smoke just fine. Below 60% you're getting too much heat; much above 70% and it can be too wet. The tobacco will swell and you'll get all kinds of problems burning.

I prefer my cigars at 65%.....they smoke better and set up faster. The problems you describe could be from wetness. Many vendors store their cigars at higher humidities and they will arrive at your door "wet". With one vendor in particular I will leave the boxes out, lid cracked, for 2-3 days before putting them in the cooler.

Also, you may try dry boxing a cigar or two to see if this makes any difference.
