I am a relatively new cigar smoker, buying cigars on a daily basis. My wife decided to buy me a present, which happened to be a humidor. A BIG humidor. It holds 300+ cigars, has 2 humidifiers, etc, etc, etc. My problem is that it came with no instructions. Do I need to do anything to make it cigar friendly, or can I just fill the humidifiers and immediately put cigars in it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

No need to season it. Fill humidifiers with 50/50 mix of PG/distilled water. Wait 12-24hrs and fill with cigars. X

The wood in your humidor needs time to reabsorb moisture before you use it the first time. To ensure this happens, you should break in your humidor according to these instructions.

1.Place a shot glass filled with distilled water or 50/50 solution in the bottom of the humidor

2.Charge your humidifier and place inside the humidor

3.Place your calibrated hygrometer inside the humidor

4.Close the lid.

5.Check the humidity daily using the hygrometer. When it reaches the 68 – 72% range, the wood has been properly stabilized.

Note: Do not wipe the interior or your humidor with Water. This will ruin the wood.

Actually there are manufacturers who recommend wiping with a damp cloth (not wet) to start the absorbtion process and remove any dust from the interior surface of the cedar or, in the case of inexpensive humidors, cedar veneer. I have done this often with no ill effects.

But as always, your mileage may vary.

There should be a kick-start lever or pull-start rope thingy on the side. Crank it up and take it for a spin but don't exceed 65mph for the first 1000 miles or so.
And don't go swimming for at least three hours after you eat it.

As a follow up to JimPrice's instructions, depending on the type of hygrometer you have. Get a soda bottle cap, fill it up with salt, about 2/3rds full and sprinkle a few drops of water on the salt (do not make this into a solution) Place your hygrometer and the container of salt into a ziplock bag and seal. Check in about 6 to 8 hours, you hygrometer should read 75%. If not adjust it to that. There's usually a hole at the back that you can fit a screw driver into. You now have a calibrated hygrometer.
