What a tragic thing. I can sure think of a lot of other reporters I had rather see go than Bloom. He was one of my favorites at NBC. Course, I do not like many at NBC.

wife said that is something like what Divers Get.. simular to the bends...air pocket in the lungs

An embolism is more commonly known when it happens in your brain where it's called a stroke. It's a swelling and subsequent bursting of a vessel or artery. Very sad. 3 young girls and a wife. Our days are numbered, we’re here for a short time. Let’s try to make the most of it. Live each day and cherish your good times. These are the good old days…

I enjoyed watching him (periodically) anchor in place of Tom Brokaw, and watching his segments on MSNBC. I think he genuinely enjoyed being in Iraq on this assignment. He will be missed.

Asked my wife what might have caused this, and she indicated that she's seen this before in people who sit in planes for long periods of time without much movement, causing a clot to develop in the lung area. I wonder if his confinement in military vehicles for the last few weeks were a key factor?
