My wife and I are going to be visiting Boston this fall. Are there any areas that are good to stay in and areas that I want to avoid? Also, any good smoke shops?

I would suggest that you check out the rates at the Milenium Bostonian Hotel. It is across the street from Quincy Market, faneuil hall, and a 5 minute walf from the North End (little Italy).

Churchills is located in the Bostonian, and is one of 2 legal smokeing venues after May 5. How convenient for a cigar smoker.

It is also about a 2 minute walk govenment center where you can catch the "T" (public transit) to other parts of the city. Lots of galleries, restaurants and good shopping on Newbury St. Also visit cigar masters on boylston st (parallel to Newbury), the other legal cigar lounge.

The missus might enjoy shopping at filenes basement, but I suggest you stay away from there or it will cost you.

Try eating at Ida's ( my favorite restaurant in the North End) it's tiny and the food is great.

It always depends on your tastes, obviously, but bostnbill has hit some good points. In fact, I did not know where the cigar louges were at.!
If you're staying in the city, don't worry about where you are. It's safe, very small, and walkable from anywhere on a nice day.
food is great. The North End is where I usually eat. Many newer fish joints serve great seafood, and only get the New England Chowda' (the white kind).

well I didn't know that they banned smoking in Boston... but check out the Boarshead Saloon... (Cheers) Filmed there... the Plymouth Rock (Pebble) is a waist of time in my book... but the Harbor was kinda cool...and like TG said.. Walking is about the best Option... Traffic Sucks and them people love to double and tripple park in the streets... all in all I had a great time out thata way!!!!

I stayed in Falmouth Mass in the Cape... and that was even a better time... the Owner at the Falmouth In was a Cigar Smoker also... and the VFW kept the lights on for Us!!!!!
Great Coastal Scenic Drive when I was out that way also...

Graveyards are something to see in Boston. Really.

My firm is headquartered in Boston. Try out Mike's Pastry in the Italian district. Also if you like history either walk or ride the freedom trail. It will take you by places like Bunker Hill, old ironsides, the old North church, Paul Revere’s house etc.
