Just got back from my "way too short" trip up to Colorado for a little fly fishing and herfin! This was a purely Bucanero trip - and it couldn't have been better! We hit four rivers and went all along the rockies around Denver. Couldn't have been more beeyootiful! The Crew held up perfectly chomped in my teeth as I reeled 'em in!!!

That sounds great! There's nothing like catching a trout on a fly rod. I'm planning on a Fish-N-Herf later this year for the salmon run on the St. Joseph River in Michigan. I can't wait 🙂

When I lived there The South Platte above Spinney Res. was the hot spot for us locals. I've caught more than one five pounder there and a twenty fish day was not unusual. I miss it big time!

Did You fish "The Canyon"? If so, how was it?

Ah yes...so many rivers and bays...so many fish..so little time...
going North into Canada next year...this mid-July fishing in Idaho with 100 degree temps just don't cut it. The cool 56 degree water though made afternoon rests between trips really enjoyable.

I took a trip this year to the Green River in Dutch John Utah. I toasted the last day of fishing with a PAM Bel. It was the best fishing I have ever had. This means alot since I guided all through my Under Grad. I have never had the fishing I had on the Green and Provo River. Size 20 BWO and 20inch Browns I sat and drank some Makers and had the PAM could not have thought of a better way to end a trip.

I don't know why anyone would want to fish for flies when you can just swat the damn things.;)

Yes, we actually did go to the Canyon this time - I had never been there before and it was gorgeous (long hike up past the crowds), but the water was running REALLY muddy - we only got a few. We hit the Williams Fork and the Fraser and killed 'em. Standard stuff - caddis, nymphs and a few 'special' patterns I created that worked like a charm. On the Fraser we found a couple 3-4 pounders taking the dry! Can't beat it!

Where in Idaho are you? Last year we hit Henry's Fork and it actually lived up to all the Hype! We couldn't pull 'em out fast enough, but the 5 pounders fought like the dickens!

Intel, Ah, The Green! I float tubed it a few years back and it was awsome! I was fishing about a half mile below the take-out and seemed to get snagged on something in a seam in the currant. Then after a few moments the "snag" snapped My leader and swam away! Lord only knows the size of THAT Monster!

Have any of You guys fished The Bighorn in recent years? I haven't been since the late 80's but it too was an awsome river. I float tubed 12 miles down it on one occaision. What a ride!

Ah. Fine companions, the best cigars, single malt scotch, and a beautiful river. I'll be daydreaming all week.

all week??? I'll be day dreaming for MONTHS until my next trip! don't get much fly fishing in Dallas....

although Brother Phenix has offered to take me on the ONLY trout river in texas... looking forward to that..

Where's the Bighorn??

It has been about ten years since I have fished the Bighorn. The number of Guide Permits given out was crazy. You had to wait in line for about an hour to put your drift boat in. I was told a few years later it got so bad guides had fist fights over who got to a hole first. I started to go up to the Kooteni river in Northern Montana. Nobody there and great fishing. It is about 2 hours out of Spokane Washington. If you watched the movie River Wild that is the river it was filmed on. Great wading and floating, also great to have a Cigar on. We should put together a Fly Fishing Herf.

I am ALL about a fly-fishing herf!!! But that would probably mean some traveling for me....

The White River, in NW Arkansas, is about a 6 hour drive, from Dallas, maybe a little less, traffic considered. Got some of the best trout fishing in the U.S. Up until a couple of years ago, well maybe 4 years, held the record for largest brown trout.

I fished the Bighorn last year..area called "Wedding of the Waters" out of Thermopolis Wyo...great float trip..2 days and saw one other boat....very good fishing especially large Browns....Guide was a transplant from Arlington Texas and was very good guide and company..

If You go to the White River in Ark. would recommend checking out John Gully out of Mt. Home...Orvis guide and a good one ..cacn line you up to stay at Gaston's...You shoul try flyfishing at nite for really big Browns and a very unique experience....For really big Bows on very lite tippett try Fishing with Harry Lane on the San Juan River out of Farmington New Mex.
All in all I've experienced nothing better than bonefish,permit and Tarpon out of Casa Blanca Lodge at ascension Bay in the Yucatan....looking forward to swapping stories and Gars with You Ethan..cb

I heard The San Juan had been over fished. 'Bows with handprint shaped fungus on the sides from to much handling. Not true?
