I first fished The Bighorn out of Ft.Smith back in the 80's when the Res. first opened up. Mike Craig had Bighorn Anglers and the fishing was some of the best I've ever seen. Sorry to hear it wasn't managed well.

Let's open another can of worms (pardon the expression). Bamboo or Graphite?

ras ..haven't had the pleasure of meeting him..would welcome the opportunity....haven't heard that about the San Juan but haven't been there for a couple of years,it has a good bit of pressure in the peak season but great oct-feb open tail-water in the winter...check with Harry Lane of Troutfitters or that web site...I highly recommend the Bighorn but out of Thermopolis Wyo. and try to connect with a guide that has a permit for access to the Indian Reservation..phenix

ras...although I love the beauty of BambooI think graphite is much more practical the exception would be very small streams... 7x tippet...and small dry flies...perfect conditions for the cane....course totally impractical
for the salt...Had a ball last week-end with a 31 1/2 in. redfish...10in. of water and a 6wt....phenix

Never used a bamboo.... just my T&T and Sage....

I was at the San Juan about 3 years ago and the main hole was a parking lot, but down stream we hardly saw another boat... I think all the guides were putting out, hanging around the big pool and then just rowing back to shore... btw... downstream the bows weren't nearly as big.... only 3-4 pounds....

Ethan...yea....but drives me crazy....big fish ...7x tippet...and #26 midges...got cross-eyed just tying on the fly... we found mostly browns downstream...phenix

I live in Arizona and we took a trip up to Idaho and fished from the last northern campsite on the St.Joe. Where on the Henry's did you fish? We fished Henry's fork around West Yellowstone a few years back but only pulled out "wannabes"

My eyes are to far gone for that 7x/#26 stuff. I like My 8 1/2 ft. 7wt. Something that can punch a Wooley Bugger straight into wind right where You want it.

I got to spend the day at T&T's old location up in Mass. a few years back. Hanging out with Master Bamboo rodmakers and watching them work was way cool but I still prefer graphite. Bamboo action is to slow for My tastes.

We floated the Henry's Fork through Box Canyon to Last Chance. Now THAT'S a float!!!

Is it the Crow Reservation in Wyo. as well as Mt.? Last time I fished out of Ft.Smith, below the reservoir, no special Res. permits were required. Just had to stay within the banks of the river and have a Mt. fishing license.

Any East Coast Anglers out there? I've been out here for about ten years now and have yet to find waters that excite Me. Any ideas?

Rastus....the Bighorn at Thermopolis Wyoming is where I fished it...It goes underground and resurfaces just South of that Town,,,,the river flows thru and Indian Reservation...I don't recall which tribe...I think Shoshone....but My understanding that only a few acess and float permits are granted to the river in that area
the area North toward the town is open access and flows between the highway and the rail line...Phenix

Rastus....check out info sources thru TU (trout Unlimited) on line....I've not tries but have heard of some legendary streams all over the East especially for brookie.....western Pa. has some famous streams...phenix

I think the White River would be a great place for a herf. I grew up in Springfield Mo. and fished the White most of my life. If anyone wants to get together with a herf, shoot me an e-mail at [email protected] Fall is the best time for fishing and camping or we can get together at Gaston's but they will be very crowded at that time of the year. I know a few fellows from Mountain Home we could set up a good trip. By the way Graphite vs Bamboo is like Sungrown vs Con. Shade. It is all what you enjoy.

Intel...sounds like a trip to the White for fish and frogs sounds great....meet up in Little Rock or Mt. Home even better..sure al'thor would be in and a few from here...Know John Gully there ...great guide and patient teacher and world champion distance caster I think 3 or 4 times....lives on the river not too far from Gaston's and some of the best fishing is within site of his back poarch.....would like to float the White and the Buffalo river sometime ....haven't tried that one but would like to..Phenix

I'm familiar with T.U I was a member of the West Denver chapter and a Founder of the Evergreen chapter. The guys I've met out here seem awfully "clic-ish". Just have to keep looking!

Let me know, If Ya'll decide to make a trip to the White. I live about an hours drive, from the White. And Just off I-40, I could meet to Herf, at the least, though I work weekends.

Woohoo!! Fly Fishin' Herf 2003 is underway! I'm definitely in! It would have to be a weekend this fall..

rastusmcnair, my dad used to live in Evergreen... fished all the creeks around there...

In the northeast, try the Beaverkill (the Snake of the east...) - that's my only experience - nothin' like a good sulfur hatch...

al'thor..homebrew..et al...let's do it on the White around 1-15th of oct..think that will be right after our pass....who can ramrod...I'll be glad to although local to the area might be better.....I'm in ..any others....Carl
