I think funjohnny is right too.

Give me the addy to the swingset, my boxing gloves, and I'll be there...hehe!

Seriously though, I will make this MY last post on this matter. I'm sorry to the rest of you guys for having to put up with this crap.

Now, if you guys just quit responding and topping it, this thread will dissapear in no time.

No, not the gloves! I meant, "Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame." That's a great quote.

I think it's ridiculous that Fox News fought Franken for those words. They should have known it would only boost his sales.
But if the courts won't support them, why allow the TM to begin with??

Professor, why the snobbish view of muffler sales? Do you look down your nose at everybody that doesn't have a college degree? I realize your intent was to attack an individual, but the result was a broad stroke of the brush. For a supposededly well-learned guy you don't think very clearly.

As for Philosophy as a subject, I think it's great. I took a philosophy course once. It helped boost my GPA. Kinda like gym class.

Doc, be sure to let us know when you finish your book. I'd be very interested in reading it. I've never read anything by a vengeful philosopher before.

Here's a title suggestion: "I whine, therefore I am"

...A self-declared Socialist philosophy professor talking down to an auto mechanic? That doesn't sound very social to me. It sound more like dictatorship of the proletariat.

tailgater,

I didn't really mean anything about mechanics as a whole, obviously. Just trying (successfully) to get under Mike's skin. I have the utmost respect for humans, whatever their profession.

Funny that you scold me for mocking Mike's profession, then do the same to me. The contempt for the intellectual arts on this board is absurd.

This term 'whine' is a favorite of wackos on this board, thrown out randomly as an 'insult.' Curious where I've 'whined' in this thread or others? Oh, but that would ask you to do something beyond random 'insults' (can't you come up with better stuff?). Too much to ask.

And, tailgater, what puzzles me is your lack of self-esteem. If you did well in philosophy, why does that mean it was 'easy'? Maybe you are intelligent and insightful, and that's why you did well. I'd bet on the latter, unless you just had a bad professor.

The Chronicle of Higher Education recently did a study of reading and writing skills development in college/university education. You might be interested in the outcome...philosophy majors placed third (behind english and art history) in terms of highest development of reading and writing skills, from first year to graduation. You know what majors placed last?

Two majors actually saw a decline in skills over the college career of the students...shameful, really, and a failure of universities to those students.

Know which majors? Hazard a guess?

Ahh the Plebeians and the Patricians and the inherent tensions therein. Would that it were any other way, we would be but Stepford wives, all perfect in our others eyes. Without an inclination for deprecation, without imagination or reservation. Without innovation, a stagnant nation…

Here's one of my fav quotes that I have up on my office wall:

We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."
- Winston Churchill

Wow, this is some funny ****. I help out on a regular basis in my kids' elementary school classes and they have nothing on you guy's when it comes to childish behavior.

The one that gets me most is this "DRMADDVIBE" character. He's the kid standing off to the side saying "hey Mikey, did you hear what he just called you. You can't take that. You gotta call him something back. Come on. Don't be a ****."

BTW DRMADDVIBE- I believe MAGNAFIDE at one point said he was not going to post anymore because the forum was becoming to aggressive for him. Why aren't you directing the same question to him that you directing to JDR- "Why are you back here? You said you weren't going to post anymore". Shouldn't it work both ways or does only one participant have the right to change their mind?

Time to go, I think I hear the recess bell going off. Don't want to be late to class or somebody might narc me off to the principal.

What is funny to me is that Magnifide stated "Who cares?...not me...there are more important issues in the world to dwell on, than petty crap like this.." and then commenced to talk **** for the remainder of the thread. I have never gotten into any of the trash threads, but I have noticed that magnifide does have bigoted tendencies.

He seems to try to rally folks behind him, but only makes himself look more like a middle-aged juvenile. JMHO.
