Chris said, "I hope the recall fails, mainly because it's completely ludicrous and an obvious GOP power play just like the redistricting in Texas, and secondly because there are no good candidates."

Chris? I'm curious, did you feel this way when the dems tried to recall Regan? Or are your motivations purely political and not based on "your centrist opinions that elections should not be overturned?"

Robby -
1 - When did they try and recall Reagan, the answer is either before I was born, or before I was 10yrs old...

2 - The election should not be overturned, mainly because of the reasons SteveS and rayder1 mentioned. This state doesn't have any checks and balances to prevent this from happening over and over again.

3 - Do you see this as something other than a power play? What about Texas?

Steve,

Very good points.

California law allows for the recall. That law is not set in stone. If the racall creates a fiasco, it will likely be changed somewhere down the road.

California doesn't have time to wait for Davis to be voted out in the next non-recall, scheduled election.

Me? I'll be voting for the recall because I want to send a message to all them bastids up there in Sacto, that they could be next, well that and I don't think the State can handle another three years of Davis.I don't think the State could handle three years of Busty either so I'd vote to recall him as well.

Haven't made my mind up on whether to vote for Arnold or McClintock yet.I like Arnie and think he would make a fine Governor although McClintock has experience I do think he should step aside and then work closely with Arnold to try and get some of his ideas passed into law.Gonna be pretty hard to do though with all those sneaky Dems gumming up the works.

As far as follow up recalls, hell let em fly I say.If thats what the Dems really want to do!I don't think you could gather the support that there is to recall Davis though,no matter who wins this election.

Contrary to what some of you believe, this is not simply a republican lead witch hunt. There are far to many Dems, independents and republicans fired up about this to simply blame it on the republicans. It may have started that way but in the last few months I believe Davis has signed his own death certificate.Lets Hope!

Republican power play? Thats a joke, or another paranoid Lib/Dem statement.

The latest poll shows that there is a 60% approval of the recall. Thats a fact. There isnt anywhere near that many Cons/Reps in this state. It takes a hell of a lot of Dems/Libs in there to reach 60%.

No power play, just total dissapointment in this Governors performance. Proof of this will be when the recall is done. It can ONLY be done if Dems/Libs want it too.

Do you really think ANY recall has EVER been started by the same party as the person being recalled? If so, name even one recall, you cant.

So, you can call it what you want. You just dont like it and want to discredit it.

Chris, I'm sure what is happing in Texas is exactly what happened in Georgia (where I live) when the Democrats held the state house and senate and voted a redistricting, which favored them. It's not unusual or unprecedented. Just like the recall in Cali. The fact that your party has tried this themselves before you voted does not mean that it's never happened or that they aren't the pot calling the kettle black...

What’s also hilarious to me is that if Arnold wins, the same people who are squealing like Ned Beaty loosing his virginity will mount a similar recall against the newly elected governor and justify it with some Jesse Jackson jargon like, he’s newly elected, but he ain’t duly elected, or some other similarly juvenal slogan. And all of the self righteous left leaning constitutional purist’s who are currently calling foul will be rallying like the town’s people in the scene at the end of Frankenstein and clamoring for “the monster” in the governor’s mansion to meet his condign fate and succumb to “the will of the people”… And if it happens, you’ll be right there with them, wielding a torch in one hand and a pitchfork in the other and decrying the horrible injustice that was done and how it must be righted!

Chris ... I'm a little unclear as to what you're referring to when you speak of a "Republican power-play in Texas" ... but if it's a re-districting you're speaking of, you should be aware that in EVERY state there is periodic re-districting done by whichever political party has control of the state legislature and boundries are re-drawn to favor their candidates ... it is an age-old political practice known as Gerrymandering.

The most recent re-districting here in CA (done by the Dems, btw) affected me by dumping my community and part of Pleasanton in with Oakland/Hayward/Fremont ... which means my chances for a state legislator OR a congressperson who represents MY spectrum of political thought has about as much chance of happening as there is for pigs to take flight ... it's not the first time such re-districting has disenfranchised me either, but about the fourth ... if you're also against Democratic "power-plays" and not just against the Republican "power-plays", perhaps you would be good enough to write your representatives and urge them to put my district back where it belongs ...

Chris, no I call it just what it is. A LEGAL recall.

Youngster you and your Lib/Dem associates are some paranoid dudes. Everytime something you dont like happens its a conspiracy of some kind. Like Bush being elected, or going into Iraq for example.

Here is a conspiracy...the Davis camp giving drivers licenses to illegal aliens to gain support from Latinos for votes. Any jackass that does that should be thrown out on their ass or fired without a recall.

R U all fuggin nuts, read up on Texas before you start spouting this crap. 2-3 years ago during the normal redistricting period they could not reach consensus so the courts did it and everything was agreed to and put in place. And now with a completely GOP controlled congress they called a "special" redistricting and want to organize it so all of the lower income and minorities are in groups together and all the whities are separate drastically changing the system and eliminating any sense of equality for the minorities and lower income residents.

Robby - if you don't think I'm serious or steadfast about my feelings on the recall then you can kiss my ass.

It's funny how all of these people outside of Cali have opinions on this when they have no clue what's going on since they're not here and dealing with it!!!
