In the wake of his controversial statements regarding Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, Rush Limbaugh has resigned from his position on ESPN's NFL pregame show. ESPN has accepted the resignation.

Limbaugh issued a statement late Wednesday night in which he wrote:

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.

"I love NFL Sunday Countdown and do not want to be a distraction to the great work done by all who work on it.

"Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen."

Response from George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports:

"We accept his resignation and regret the circumstances surrounding this. We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."

Politically Correctness!!!!

Or no one wanted to work with a bigot. Depends on how you see it.

He's not a bigot.

His comment was his opinion of the Medias take on Black QB's. It was still wrong though. He is a smart man, and should have known that a statement like that would cause controversy.

He resigned, and did the right thing.

I may be wrong, but wasnt Rush & his Wife Married by Clarence Thomas? I dont think a bigot would do that.

Sad for Rush, sad for sports, and sad for America. I was going to add that no one is safe from the thought police. But I stopped and realized that some are.

Hey DMV,
Didn't mean to ruffle any feathers, and I missed that thread. Just saw your post, and I agree with you about Rush, but not the name calling. Texas Star?? The Bucs. What you have some, I am wishing I did, but tried to get to a place that does, and their server was down, spent my budget, on PSD4 ISOM's instead. I think I have a couple coming, anyway, from a friend in Texas.
Hey DMV,
Have a great day.

Rush Limbaughs ego is so huge there is no room for biggotry.

He actually said this:

"All this has become the tempest that it is because I must have been right about something," Limbaugh said. "If I wasn't right, there wouldn't be this cacophony of outrage that has sprung up in the sports writer community."

YIKES! A legend in his own mind. The man needs help. Im not sure he even knows what he is saying anymore.

Using Rush's logic every time someone opens their mouth and there is a huge outcry, that person was right - Grey Davis, Jessie Jackson, George Bush, Bill Clinton - whoever. Seems to be faulty logic to me.

Regarding his original statement;
I do feel that his comments were bigoted in nature. He offered nothing to back up his comments. The media puffs up many sports figures, white, black, latino, etc. - what led him to the conclussion that in this instance it was because of skin color? What indicates that this instance is different? (and this is even if his abilities have been overstated - a matter of opinion). Rush did not make his case.

Has anyone ventured the theory that he was stoned out of his mind on hillbilly heroin, i.e., oxycontin?

It was truly bizarre to hear that particular comment, that the outrage must mean he is right. Say wha? That seemed like a desperate comment from a desperate person...just once, I'd like to see someone in this kind of situation apologize. Just once.

Yeah, JD...outrageous response = right??? Hmm...that would make you right all the time as well as Rush.

And apologies??? We'll get about as many apologies from Rush as we do from you.

(Had to take the jab. I'll now retreat in defense.)

Why some of you **** can't refrain from making it personal, I just don't understand. If you have a beef with me, billyjackson or DMV, email me: [email protected].

I (like everyone else) am tired to this b.s. on this board. Respond to the issue/comment, ignore, or, if you want to get personal...send me an email. I responded and will respond to the issue, not the person. Is it too much to expect the same from you?

Why, JD, are we cross? … Does this mean that we're not friends anymore?

This is another example of where you have the right to say what you want, as long as it doesn't offend anyone.

I don't listen to Rush and don't always see things as he does. But...... They knew his opinions were controversial and would raise eyebrows. It was no secret that he speaks his mind.
People have a tendancy to forget that media is entertainment and can be turned off.
I don't think that a person should have to resign because of their opinion, regardless of their job.

I don't agree with what he said and I often don't agree with things he says, but to say he is a bigot for the one statement is reaching a bit.
JMHO (remember, only my humble opinion)

0patience,

This is not the only remark Limbaugh has made that is racist; there is a history and trend here. For two examples, he said black and hispanic voters were 'too stupid' to use voting machines in Florida, and he once told a black caller to his show to 'take the bone out of his nose and call him back.'

So calling him a bigot, for me at least, does not come from just one remark.

Also, he has a right to say what he said. Who said he didn't have that right? But surely you don't think he has a right to be paid for making that kind of remark. Go say it on your own time. THAT is protected speech. No one has a right to a job in the U.S. (and Rush should know that...he harps on that point constantly in his show!).

Hog, do you think ESPN should employ someone who makes a racist remark? Isn't it their right to set a standard for their employees? That's what they did here. Nothing wrong with that, to my mind.

John
