What else do you do for fun besides your work and cigars. Active in team sports? Perform artistically in some way? Take part in a social group or club built around a particular interest. What do you do in the areas of community service or charity? Active politically?

Just wondering about the other dimensions of our poster's lives.. Perhaps some of us can hook up on some of these other interests.

DB, hey it's something we can agree on 🙂

Anyway, I have a couple of pastimes. My main passion is of martial arts. I study Budo Taijutsu and hold a 4th degree black belt. In that spare time I teach self-defense to kids, women and the disabled.

I also dabble very little in 3D artwork with the computer. Nothing great but I enjoy it.

SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals II. This is am online game for the Playstation 2. You are either in a team (of up to 😎 seals, or a team (of up to 😎 terrorists. Your job is basically to hunt down and destroy the other team. You use a headset to communicate with your team members. You pick your weapons, and you go hunting. Kind of like a high tech, virtual paintball. The missions are complex, and the battles are intense. That's my other hobbie. Plus I love to read, mostly fantasy fiction ala George RR Martin, Robert Jordan, and a bunch of others. I also like wine, Cheese, and scotch. I could go on, and on but alas, I will cease. MK

Have you tried Americas Army? It's an awesome free game developed by the US Army. Check it out at www.americasarmy.com.

Have you read anything by R.A. Salvatore?

I do a lot of carpentry and play a lot of golf. The golf has been pretty minimal this summer/fall due to a major kitchen gut & remodel now about 2 weeks from completion. This is the biggest and most diverse project attempted to date. Looking pretty darn good too.

I have a Monte "A" which has been resting awhile in the humi to celebrate completion of this project.

Avid collector of comic books and historical items (lots of old theater programs, vintage matchcovers, qsl cards, old menus, sports programs, WWII stuff, and on and on--if it's interesting and historical, I probably collect it), metal detecting (found my first gold ring this past weekend), buying and selling on eBay (my handle is nichewit), and, of course, cigars and reading (the two go together for me).

I'm also starting up my own non-profit, The Comics and Kids Network, through which I donate comic books free of charge to groups that work with kids. Currently waiting to receive my IRS 501(c)3 tax exemption. If you can find ways to turn a hobby into helping others, I highly recommend it. There's nothing more fun than sharing what you enjoy with others.

OK now that a few of you have chimed in. I'm a football nut (played for 11 years now a fantasy nut and an NFL season ticket holder), play golf and swim when time permits. I lead a couple hundred volunteers in one of the YMCA's Parent Child programs and sing in a real awesome choral group that sells out auditoriums at $18 a ticket. I love the horse races and really enjoy reading to my kids at night. I love a good scotch and of course a cigar to match. The ocean is my favorite travel destination, the warmer the better.

Guitar (I'm pretty good). And I write songs (they're pretty good, you'd be impressed) and sing. Also trying to learn to play golf... Lately, haven't really had an opportunity to do either. Maybe next year will be better.

I still have my comic books from 1970ish to 1975ish.
I think my prize piece is a Hulk no. 181. Don't know why I have it, I never even liked the hulk.

Mrtelcom,

Good for you in keeping all those '70s classics! You have what is probably the Holy Grail of the modern comic book era. Congrats!! I still don't have Hulk #181--wish I did. (For the non-comic nuts out there, Hulk 181 is the first full appearance of Wolverine of X-Men fame). Make sure and keep it safe; it might help pay for your kid's college tuition one day 🙂

Regards,

Dan

I liked Fantastic four and "The Metal Men" - have a nice collection of those. My older brother got me hooked when I was a wee sprite, he has THE collection. I think he has 5 Hulk 181's! (We didn't have a clue when we bought them). I think he said his collection is now valued at over 15K.
Neither of us has bought (or sold) one since grade school, pretty cool how that worked out.
Except for the Howard the Duck Urban legend in 1977(?)..
I also have my wacky packages collection 🙂
