People said the aircraft carrier fly-in and announcement ending hostilities was a photo-op designed for campaign commercials. Funny, its the DemocRATS that are using it not Republicans.

I STILL haven't heard their(the 9 Mondale's)awe inspiring plans(besides "cut and run")to help Iraq. Hillary wants a larger UN role, but we all saw what happened when they became a target. They high-tailed it outta there so damn fast you never saw a tail light. I don't think the US military needs that kind of help. We should go it alone if no one else has the needs of the Iraqi people.

The idea of a sitting President flying into a war torn nation and having dinner with his troops tells me that he's thankful for their service and wanted to spend a national holiday with those that are on his mind. GW can talk on camera in Iraq, can Saddam? LMAO!

We all have plenty to be thankful for, I'm glad that he did what he did. On a sidenote...did anyone see the troops eating their turkey with Hillary? Faces pointed square at their plates. I notice she wasn't doing any serving. Talk about a free meal.

Intel, you have an unhealthy worship of the military. It seems only the military (in which Bush, of course, did not serve...what he did was go awol on the most honorable form of draft dodging) lives a life worthy of respect. That is in itself an unhealthy and utter absurd way to see the world. There are other ways to live and they are just as meaningful and valuable. As usual, I suspect your hostility to my education derives mainly from resentment, knowing you couldn't cut it and had to do something different with your life.

Since the military means so much to you, you might be impressed with the long history of profound sacrifices my family has made in this nation's military. We've earned the right to have some son's who don't march off to die for some meaningless cause like this one in Iraq. Believe me, we've earned it. As far as what I've risked and sacrificed...first, it's none of your business. Personal info. that I don't care to share with anonymous, hostile people who don't even use their real names on a bbs. Second, that has NOTHING to do with the President's visit to Baghdad, now does it? Diversion? I think so. Bush II never risked life and limb for his country, so direct that criticism there too, ok? Oh...you won't. Why not? I am curious about THAT answer.

Ironic that you think you are the one who knows and respects the soldier. But you are the one cheerleading this pointless losing of life and limb. For shame! You guys act like this is a western film, with your homoerotic relation to the swaggering hero. This isn't a movie.

I do not now or have ever served in the U.S. Armed Forces. My respect comes from having several friends and acquaintances die in military actions since Panama. I know their sacrifice I have seen what it costs their families and all, I repeat all, of them have told me they know there love ones died for what they believed in.
As for not cutting it, I graduated at the top of my class in college. I went to a medium size private liberal arts college were most of my professors did not know the real world from anything other than books.
As for the sacrifice part thank God there are people like your family members who carried the torch of freedom so you did not have to.
As for my real name you can call me Dave or Officer which ever you want but when I get up in the morning and put myself on the line keep in mind people defend your freedoms everyday both near and far. Just say thanks and leave it at that

usahog, you are so classic. You don't agree with me, find my views objectionable, so you want me banned? You've always had a fascistic edge to everything you say, and this is just another version. Well-done! I'm not here to stir ****; just to post my views. If you can't control your emotions when I post, that's your issue.

Didn't you 'quit' and pout your way out of here? I remember the post where you said goodbye. Now you are back? Whiner, pure and simple. If things don't go your way, pout and whine. Grow up.

(The liberal media isn't reporting any of the progress that's being made in Iraq, therefore) "There is no progress being made in Iraq."

Brilliant. I'm sure university beard-scratchers could make a lot more progress over there with terrorists trying to kill them on a daily basis.

I never said this meant nothing to troops. But I will say that they've been used by Bush and you, of all people, should think that is shameful.

Lay off my profession. It is the most ridiculous personal 'attacks' I've witnessed. Please either drop that issue or explain how we should have universities without professors. Or if you think we should have no universities at all. Otherwise, this is all so much expression of inferiority complexes. It's comical to me, but also very, very pathetic and sad.

Everybody should just step back from this thread ... take a deep breath ... and calm down a little.

Otherwise, this whole thing could escalate into some 'thread pulling' or even a few 'time-outs' ...

... haven't we learned anyting yet from those who have been there (or are still there)?

Slimboli,

"Everybody should just step back from this thread"

IMHO…

Most posters in this thread wanted to acknowledge the President's visit to Baghdad. Some were not even Bush fans, bless their open minds. Then some one decided he just had to "fart in church." The result, some posters decided to comment the on the quality of the fart. If you feel compelled to do the control thing, act on the actor(s) not everyone.

It really was a stinker. (;->>

Gene363 --- when I said 'everybody', it was not meant as 'all' who have posted, and has nothing to do with trying to control the thread ...

'Everybody' is more of a ... if the shoe fits, wear it ... type of statement.

I honestly think that the people my statement was directed towrard, are the ones who understood who the 'everbody' was that I was talking about.

To the rest, it didn't matter ...
