At Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC recently the Sergeant
Major of the Army, Jack Tilley, was with a group of people visiting the
wounded soldiers. He saw a Special Forces soldier who had lost his right
hand and suffered severe wounds of his face and side of his body. The
SMA wanted to honor him and show him respect without offending,
but what can you say or do in such a situation that will encourage
and uplift? How do you shake the right hand of a soldier who has
none? He decided to act as though the hand was not missing and gripped
the soldier's wrist while speaking words of comfort and encouragement
to him.

But there was another man in that group of visitors who had even
brought his wife with him to visit the wounded who knew exactly what to do.
This man reverently took the soldiers stump of a hand in both of his hands,
bowed at the bedside and prayed for him.

When he finished the prayer he stood up, bent over the soldier and
kissed him on the forehead and told him that he loved him.

What a powerful expression of love for one of our wounded heroes!

And what a beautiful Christ-like example! What kind of a man would
do such a thing? It was the wounded man's Commander-in-Chief,
George W. Bush; President of the United States. With First Lady
Laura Bush silently standing by his side.

This story was told by the SMA at a Soldiers Breakfast held at Red
Stone Arsenal, AL, and recorded by Chaplain James
Henderson, stationed there.

Just as I'm ready to rest after another hard day of work, I read this post and wonder why you throw it in Rickamaven's face.

Why would Rick object to such an act of exemplary compassion? I don't understand the vitriol expressed by some of my brothers on the right. Yeah, I said RIGHT. I've voted for every Republican since Nixon. I've even voted for Pat Buchanan AND the erudite Alan Keyes. When Ronald Reagan and Dan Quayle had their character and intelligence assaulted, I was there to defend them and I was usually outnumbered. Now, I see you guys constantly assailing Rick. What is wrong with you? What if we were to critique your grammar OR the illogical flow of your thoughts OR your hypothetical premises which are based on anecdotal information? Repetition of a mantra doesn't make it fact.

Yeah, I've been reading Rickamaven's posts for about a year. I don't agree with everything he says, but at least he has opinions that make you think outside the four corners. A more generous, frank, self-effacing man I have never seen on these boards. He's also run a business, which is more than I can say for most of you. How much practical experience with budgets, marketing plans, etc. have you had?

Morally, George Bush stands in marked contrast to Slick Willy & others of his ilk, but he is a POOR President. Most of his political decisions are expedient attempts to "outDemocrat" the left-wing Democrats.

As I've said before, and I've only been posting for about a week, Dubya is not stupid BUT he is curiously uninformed and probably doesn't read much. A man who has probably never balanced a checkbook is leading this country into a financial abyss. His plans to further erode our borders will also lead to our HASTY demise as a great power.

hope you have a fruitful trip, hog. i've got a relative or two on the wall; like to get there sometime to say g'bye. i've seen the moving wall before (the small version that goes from place to place across the USA), and that was... just no words for it. can't imagine how it would be to see the "real deal" in DC.

i'm still new on the boards, still getting to know people's personalities, posting style, etc. rick's certainly been nothing but a gentleman in my dealings with him. i don't agree with all he says here, but then i can say the same thing probably of everyone else here as well. *shrug* different strokes. thing is, i DO enjoy it when my beliefs are challenged -- the worst it does is make me reevaluate what i've held as true, and if i'm right, no harm in being even more sure of it. if i'm wrong, i can change my views.

after all, that IS the whole of the saying some are fond of: "my country right or wrong -- when right to keep her right, when wrong, to put her right." 🙂
