I love Jamacan Blue Mountain coffee (Peaberry is the best) but haven't found it any cheaper than about $35/lb(+/- incl. shipping). I've noticed a couple of Blue Mountain blends offered here on Cbid. La Estella is adveertised to be half 'n half, Jamacan Blue Mountain and Honduran, and Mayorga has a blend using Costa Rican coffee (amounts not listed). Can anyone tell me how, or if, they compare to the straight Blue Mountain? Or if anyone has a less expensive supplier they can turn me on to it would be greatly appreciated.

I've had the Blue Mountain, good, but I was not impressed. There was a lot of hype so I tried it. Again, good but not impressed.

I would try that "E" site. Seems to be a lot of action going on there...

About 20 years ago my brother bought my Dad (god rest his soul) a pound of Jamacian Blue Mountain for Christmas.
He told my dad that it cost 24 bucks a pound.
My dad just looked at his cup of coffee and said "What do they have just one bush on that mountain?"
Comments like that are what I miss most about not having dad around

JBM is a good mild coffee,just too spensive. The blends don't compare nor do they taste anything like the JBM. There are many types of coffee out there. Be adventurous and try the various types from different countries. It's fun,just like searching for that perfect cigar. X

contendertotes, Millestone is what I have been buying:-) I don't drink a lot on the weekends, so I'll brew up about 4 cups/2mugs worth and I use those sample size vacuum sealed bags. It is good for two pots. With the smaller sizes I can always have a variety of coffee on hand for whatever mood I am in.

I don't care for Starbucks that much. It always tastes like its burnt. There are a couple locals around here that I usually get beans from. Most of the time I like to roast my own, but lately I have been too lazy.

"mrkmitch" I have bought the Mayorga Blue mountain in here a few times and It's not to bad IMHO but it is better when mixed with others..I buy alot of different blend from another site and then grind and mix my own. By doing it that way I get some really Great tasting coffee.. If you would like to know the other site I use for coffee drop me a line.. TinMan

waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy over-rated.....I bought 5lbs. last time i was in Jamaica and it is way to light bodied for me. At $10 a lb., I still couldn't get over joyed.

I think i'll stick with millstone , heheh i think it good and yes i do like the small vac. bags ! saves on space in the freezer instead of having a big bag in there...and the variety of flavors is good. i did however go to an unmentionable auction site the other night and pick up a 8 oz bag of hawiian lion choc. maccadamion nut coffee for $7......i thought that was expensive for "gourmet" coffee till i say how much it's going for in the store...MAN ! i'll stick to millstone...or maxwell house...both are good to the last drop !

Freezing coffee beans isn't recommended...

GROUND coffee.....and it usually isn't in there long....i drink alot of coffee

I usually just buy what I will use in a week. If there is more I try and put it in an airtight container and put it somewhere light is not...

I don't use the freezer becuase, from what I read, moisture is an enemy of coffee and the freezing and un-freezing makes the bean taste bad. Freezing is better than putting it in the fridge though...

Just my random thoughts. I know there are much more experienced coffee conniseurs around here who could give you a better explanation than I... 🙂
