I guess it depends on what you are rating by. I have been to other forums where you could edit posts, have an avatar, etc. which is all fine and good. But with cbid, I like the content and the people more than anything. I give it a 7.5 of 10.

Technology wise it is a 3 at best, people wise it is a 8.5.

Harley...I agree, but Gonz does have plans to take this place to new heights. I guess being a new dad AND rating cigars is taking it's toll.

Just ribbin' ya "dad".

i have seen other boards. i don't like the people.

even though i cause a lot of disagreement simply to force issues out in the open, except for a few dingle heads, the overwhelming majority that agree or disagree with me would be welcome at my house any time.

i think that speaks highly of the people that post on this board.

my only complaint is that we can't have smileys LOL other than that I like almost everyone that posts here I give it a 9 especially for the people here!

Being a web developer for a living, this may sound kind of contradictory. I actually like the way the CBID forums are designed. I sure hope they dont add all the flashy signatures, graphics, etc. I think it pollutes the info on the screen. There is nothing worse than reading a one sentence reply from someone, but having to scroll past the 18pt font siguature, 15 quotes from famous people, and the 10 lines of smileys dancing on the screen. All that just to get to the next person's post. It drives me insane. Case in point: The CF forums. GAG!!!!!!!

Oh yeah, I give it a 10. (I feel like a judge on Star Search). 10 stars Ed McMahon!

I'd agree with pusk in that actually I appreciate the fact that it doesn't have all the symbols, pictures, images etc available. Those are cool, but really, it ends up that people just pile a bunch of that stuff into signatures and such, threads become a mile long. Even if there are restrictions to how many lines and such....it still all adds. So for me I like the simplicity of it. The people now that's another thing!! What a bunch of....oh wait..no I like the people!

I give it a 8 out of 10

I enjoy the format as well. One function I've seen on another site that I like is an indication of posts you haven't been into since you were last on. Other than that, I appreciate the ability to jump right down to the bottom of the post to read the new stuff and that it is quick. Others seem to take a while. I can live without the emoticons as well... they are cute at first, but I get tired of them after a while.

Totally agree with pusk! Being able to read straight down a thread instead of having to click on the next reply and then the next, with half of the screen filled with someones "famous" quote that you see 5 times in the same thread. I like the K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) approach here.

However I would like to be able to see my post, as it would look within the thread, with the opportunity to correct mistakes, before actually posting would be great.

Dingle heads... LOL @ Rick. But they are everywhere. But overall good folks here.

Can we get a chant going "Keep smiliys off! Keep smiliys off!"

ditto - 8 out of 10. It's nice to have member profiles and 'pm' people, and a few more boards, but I like everything else that cbid has. the people can't be beat. So, if I ever say "I'm leaving" then it's just a sympathy ploy to get people to send me more cigars (and once you do, then I will stay - fyi...)

thanks all (cbid and members)

I'd also give CBid a high number, maybe an 8

I don't care for emoticons either. Cute at first, but they do get over used.

I like CBid's formating. It's nice to see the list of posters on a given subject and be able to drop down to the end or click on a user name a get to their comment.
Other boards that have page 1 of 50 get a bit difficult to read thru.

I think the search engine needs a bit of work. I sometimes know which forum I want to search, but it currently searches all boards and brings up more posts than I want to sift thru.

The picture posting is good, but the editors are inconsistant with what they allow. I think an adult pic post section is warranted if you have read posts regarding that. You have to be of legal age to buy stuff from here so there won't be any minors logging on. If you dont want to see those types of pictures don't click on that board.

I would like to see a post counter by user name. I guess I am curious as to how many millions of posts I have submitted as well as most of the rest of you.

During a large part of 2002-2003 I was on assignment with Microsoft Research to help analyze online communities primarily on the USENET. (Google in NETSCAN if you want to know more about this project). No longer there. In viewing many characteristics of many online communities represented by USENET Newsgroups (including cigar newsgroups) and looking at this forum in comparison, I think the simple interface has created a lively and very cohesive online community here on Cbid. I rate it a definite 9.5 due to the interface and a positive interactive and evolving community.

This forum, does not have all the bells and whistles, that the other forum, that I visit daily. But the people here are top notch. I spend much more time, here than there, so that in itself, tells me I like this forum better. Sometimes the bells and whistles get in the way. Besides, this was my first home, on the net, and my current one. The other board, is like an apartment I keep in town.

I would give this place a 10 if we can replace Gorob and Al'Thor with some dancing midgets.

Leave them just as they are. TEXT ONLY they already ride on a relatively slow server.

As Rick said, I too like the people here, and they would all be welcome in my home. Especially some of the hard core cases, having a few in dope slapping range might do us all some good. (VBSEG)
