For some reason I just set back and watched as my wife of.....6..no...7 years purchased a $2800 washer & dryer set. I must be slipping. Does a person really need a $2800 dollar washer&dryer? Then again,I'll have something to hang over her now. That works for us men too,right?

I hear ya, bud! My wife andI recently bought a house and had to buy appliances..... including a washer and dryer. Which ones might you ask? Well, they'd be the Whirlpool Duets. Pricey, but I will say they are very nice.

You could keep the $2800 and you do the wash or make her happy and buy a bunch of gars. X

When I was just home on leave I purchased the same set for my wife ... the Whirpool Duet ... I have to admit - it was pricey IMHO - however, I was surprised how many sets of hunting clothes I could fit in there at one time and how 'dry' they are when you pull them out of the washer after that 'super-sonic-speed' spin-dry cycle ... yep, gotta admit ... although it's not a car or cat-back exhaust for my diesel truck ... it's one heck of a set ...

- btw - I bought our set for $1,709.00 (tax included) and that included the 3-prong electrical cord and and driver vent stuff ... got it at Bernies up in Connecticut and was only in there for a new dryer ... when the salesman realized I was ONLY there for a drier - he went out of his way to 'cut me a deal' on the set after he was convinced I only wanted the dryer ... have to admit - it's a nice set ... but PRICEY in my book.

OMG mydsooner, please tell me they were MAYTAG!! I got a set about 4 years ago of the superduper capacity and they hold everything and work GREAT. My sister has had her Maytag set for 14 years and they still work like a champ.

Dayum thats a lot of money. Good ones are expensive but $2800????

As long as you can still afford to pay the bills and eat, I say let the little lady have what she wants. My wife saw the advertisements for the Maytag Neptunes a few years ago and decided that's what she needed. The washer died last year after only 6 years of use.

A $20 switch in the door malfunctioned and caused the $400 computer board to burn out. $600 total estimate from Sears to fix it. I told my wife I wasn't paying $600 to fix a $1200 washing machine so she better figure out what kind of new washer she wanted to buy. During the couple of weeks that we were without a washer my wife took things to the laundromat about 1/8 of a mile from the house. I heard about it every day. I pretty much figured she was going to get her washing machine fixed one way or another.

After some internet research (apparently this was a well documented design flaw) and a couple of real heated phone calls to Maytag I was able to get the parts at half price and had a certified Maytag repairman fix it for about $300 total. Bottom line I would have eventually spent the $600 just to keep her happy. I'm just an old softy. Now if I can just get her to feel that way about the lawn mower.

I wish we didn't have a washer and dryer in the house. When we lived in an apartment I used to love going to the laundrymat. Why you ask? Because the wife doesn't let me smoke indoors but the laundrymat does. I'd take the clothes then sit, smoke, and read while they were washing and drying. When I came back my wife was so happy because I was doing domestic chores for her. But now we have a washer and dryer. So she does the wash and complains when I don't do it and I complain that I can't smoke indoors. Sigh. Yep I miss the laundry mat.

MAYTAG was my first choice, but I'd went online to read the reviews and opinions and saw that a LOT of Maytags have unhappy customers with those washer/dryer sets due to (as stated) design flaws that cause electrical shorts in the doors etc (the door switch because the water just sits there on the lip and doesn't drain - causing eventual corrosion & then poof).

The Whirlpool set was at the same price range as the Maytags (sticker on the washer was $1249 and the dryer was $699) - and the customer complaints were virtually non-existent - so - considering I'm in VA and she's in CT - I figured it would be wise to get something that won't break and has a better warranty.

When we got the Maytag, they were still pretty new and there wasn't a lot of customer feedback to research. I guess the lesson is, don't be the guinea pick for the product developers. Wait until a product has been on the market for awhile and has the bugs worked out.

They are the Whirlpool HT3 thinga-ma-jiggy. I dont know a thing except that we had added extra stuff.


They had these in Sears on these stands that are made to raise the height. Had to have those at $150 a piece,so my wife didnt have to bend over as far when she took out the big load of laundry these things will do. That's kinda funny when ya think about it. And there is some other things that im just not familiar with. I did my own laundry for 6 years while in the Army. All i knew was load it up,put in the soap,take it out when it stop's,put in dryer.

I will admit to watching it go when it started to spin. It's a front load washer by the way.

They say it will clean 22 bathtowels in one load.

Jimmy, that's the ones. You see those stands they sit on? Those dont come with the set. You have to buy those at $1500 each. That's some bullshizzle!

.... or do what I did and just place 6 cinder blocks on the basement floor and put 1/2 marine grade plywood over top of the blocks (cut to the same size footprint of both the washer & dryer) - paint it white and then put up an 8" skirt around the blocks .... total $15.00 for both ..... but hey - at least she can't call you a cheap-skate ... LOL
