I am getting my first Tax rebate ever*.

I know *that* doesn't mean anything without clarification, but the new tax laws saved me, no.. my family... a few thousand.

I hear ya. got my highest return ever and made a liitle less than last year.

Why are there no Dem's on this thread? Do they not like more of their OWN money back?? Or do they think the Federal Government can spend it better than they can? As usual, I would like to see, but do NOT expect a response from the panty waist's... And you know who you are "panty waists"...

robby: yes, sir. same everything. we filed separate this year; next year we'll file jointly (we got married in october). i don't know what it was, but last year it was "here's a refund" and this year it's "you pay us."

i helped her father start up his own consulting biz (just him out of his house; he's a retired dartmouth poly sci prof -- and a republican, you'll be glad to know!) 😉 he's saving money hand over fist by having done so. everything he touches becomes a "business expense." *chuckle*

anyway, sucks, but it's not a huge deal. the refund was small, so is the outgoing.

i'm a demo, but i do think that it's important for our nation's middle class especially to get tax breaks. they have a cultural importance to the economy of this country as a whole. so i'm happy for those who are getting a break. 🙂

... but I have received a rebate every year that I can remember.

All of my clients have faired much better this year with there tax to income ratio. I'm very pleased and happy for them.

I always owe them. The largest refund I ever got was for about 400 bucks!

I just put the check in the mail. The bastiges got another 826 bucks from me. On top of the 10 grand they already took. I got one of those $400 checks (child credit) last year but had to pay it back. The state gave back 229 but they managed to keep a couple grand. Real estate property tax was another 2 grand and personal property tax (I have to pay tax every year just to own my car) was another couple hundred.

Even after all that, I still managed to invest in my 401K, my Roth IRA, and some other side investments. I smoke good cigars and generally enjoy a good lifestyle.

I guess I've got no complaints.

I had to go to Block last night to do the old man's taxes. They didn't have much income, but it was a little here, and a little there, and I didn't want to mess it up. I'll do mine tonight.

What I don't understand is how anyone could pay more this year when there was a tax cut? You do realize that your employers started taking less from each check when the tax cut was enacted? It was across the board, for everyone.

So the best comparison would be to look at total income and total taxes paid for 03 vs. 02.

It just amazes me how many people think getting a thousand dollars back from Uncle Sam is a good thing!

All you're getting back is your money. You gave Uncle Sam a "free" loan. They made money off of the interest and are sending out the amount that you overpaid into the system.

I'd rather owe anyways. That way I get the money upfront and invest it now versus later.

DMV is right on......I recently adjusted my payroll deduction so my paycheck isn't hit as hard, and Uncle Sam doesn't get as big an interest free loan!

When I was single I did what DrMaddVibe and Sonny_LSU do now. Being married with children its a different story. If I didn't set my withholding high, the money would get spent before I could squirrel it away fo pay taxes and we would wind up scrambling to find the money on April 15.

DMV - I have always owed money, first time I had to consider adjusting my withholdings.. the reason? Tax cuts. The thousands I referenced was savings due to the tax cut, not my refund.

DMV, I completely agree with you and I claim 5 through the year to have less taken out.
