Gonna watch?

Is it going to be like watching a NASCAR Event just waiting for a crash only in this case waiting for a terrorist strike?

Personally I watch because I have always enjoyed the competition. I am looking forward to seeing the Iraqi athelets compete. I saw a news story about thier boxer. He is being trained by an American.

It'll be interesting to see how the world reacts to Iraq's athletes... as well as America’s.

During lunch today the Iraq Soccer Team played Portugal.

This is Iraq's first Olympics since 1988. Their last medal was a Bronze for Weight Lifting in 1960

And this time, Iraqi soccer players don't have to worry about thier familiers being raped or murdered if they lose.

I'll be watching and timing the actual competition minutes. Last olympics I timed 6 minutes of actual, honest-to-goodness competition in an entire hour of prime time coverage.

Between the network's over-produced "close ups", "olympic minutes", and advertising, they only gave us 6 minutes of actual competition in an hour. I am not exaggerating, this was by my stopwatch. I was so mad I was throwing things at the TV.

But I'll watch again, anyway.

Do the Olympics still exist or is this a joke? Seriously.

Blood, I care about the Olympics. I watch them with my children. How can you even state that there time is GONE???? I may not like every event but I still support the US teams. Wow, that is like a slap in the face to all these kids who strive their entire life just to represent the greatest country in the world on the world stage.

This is not the first time we have had every issue you listed. I work with several who have gone for tryouts. My brother went when he was younger. That post really galls me.

Yes Blood...we should weep and cry in our bunkers and smoke expensive cigars rolled in poverty stricken countries by people who made a penny off the $6 paid for the cigar.

We should only focus on our nation's problems (real or perceived) instead of watching the world's elite athelites compete in a hopefully peaceful setting.

My children will be at my side...my two gymnast daughters will dream and hope that some day they might be like their heroes. My one...not so athletic daughter may be inspired to try her hand at sports as well. They don't need to be cut off and worry about the world's problems. They need to dream. I

was inspired to become a competitive swimmer by watching Mark Spitz in his olympic prime. I also tried high diving and competitive skiing because of the olympics. I fully believe there is magic in the olympics that inspire our young. Seeing the world together, without borders, without political agendas. That's a dream our children need to see and more of us need to learn from. The only thing we need to remember...not our children (yet) that it doesn't come without a price.

You made your point twofold, and I agree with you 100%! I am a selective event Olympic watcher! I like all the swimming events and many of the track and field events. Will not watch any of the basketball or tennis, do not agree that the top professionals should be completeing in these events!

My gooness grashezz--no idea so many rumps would be gored... (smile)
Have no time or real desire to riposte.

Just remember, that many of us have much bigger fish to fry than watching the silly Olympics while Rome begins to burn...

BTW, my wife differs with me--it's being hosted in her hometown and she's curious.

Interesting, how my post was singled out. Good to hear from my "admirers". You may want to get back to work now. LOL!!!!!!

Blood, I singled you out. The other dude was not worth commenting. He has no TV.

I am guessing you never played sports or participated in events that had ceremonial rewards. If you did you would watch.

Blood,
You could have easily said you weren't interested in the Olympics and left it at that.

Instead you tossed your left wing, doomsday, alarmist agenda in there for the picking.

Dig a big hole...fill it with food and drink..reinforce it with concrete...give it an independent ventilation system...climb in it. terrorists...economy...bad Karma and all that crap will go away. Worked for Hitler and Hussein for a while.

Or...enjoy life.
