Kerry Wood lived up to his expectations and walked the first hitter he faced, who eventually scored. Cub bats fell silent after the first inning. Wood struggled with control while a far inferior lefty named Capuano kept the Cubs guessing. Wood walked 6 hitters before he left with the game tied.

The Brewers copuld not capatalize on their opportunities either. Either team could have taken the lead late, but neither could.

Latroy Hawkins took up where he left off last season and with 2 outs and a 2 strike count on the leagues fastest runner, Junior Spivey, allowed a hit to Spivey. He then faced Cub Killer Lyle Overbay. He gave up a double to him and the game was tied. The Cubs had to rely on John Leicester to hold the Brewers. Leicester dodgded walk after walk until the 12th inning when the walks finally caught up to him.

You can't walk hitter after hitter and expect your infielders to bail you out time and time again.

Russell Branyan and J.J. Hardy singled and Brady Clark was hit by a pitch. Overbay followed with a single off Todd Wellemeyer, ending a game of missed opportunities and sloppy play by both teams.

If this is what we have to look forward to this year, I want my money back.

That would be stereotyping him based on his login name. A stereotype is a simplified generalization about a group or individual based on incomplete information about the group or individual being labeled. So, I'm going to generalize about you.

But before I do, I'll just preface this by letting you know up front that my login name does not reflect a stereotype based on what you may or may not perceive. The Cubs do not need the likes of Sammy "Corky" Sosa anymore, they need a new manager and a CLOSER! Wood pitched good for not being able to throw earlier in the week, if his arm is ok, you will be better off, but if Kerry goes down, good bye pennant and hello "Billy Goat and Bartmann" Curse again!

Kerry Wood has to quit thinking he has to blow everyone away. This is an amazing statistic.

35% of major league hitters walked will score. The Cubs lost that game for many reasons. The inability to pick up runners in scoring position, or even move runners into scoring position, a pretty good fielder bobbling the baseball on a surefire play that would have kept a fast runner at third base, allowing that fast runner to reach base with 2 outs in the 9th and BEING IN THE LEAD in the first place, and Kerry Wood walking the first batter of the game, the Brewers playing sound fundamental baseball, getting him on, getting him over, driving him in.

Bad, very bad. 4 games, 4 no decisions for the rotation. The Cubs have to fix it and fix it now. A 1-3 record is not the end of the world, but they have played 2 very bad teams. What happens when they play 18 apiece with St. Louis, Houston, Cincinatti?

It could be a very long year.
